So today I was at a skidpan day and at the end of the day the engine light came on. I checked the manual and it says its the malfunction indicator light or something along those lines and it's mostly concerned with the emissions system. Is there any more information I can get out of it without an XCAL box or taking it to a mechanic? If I could get an error code on the display at least id know if it was anything to worry about.

It stays on solid even after turning the car off for a while, doesnt beep and the car seems to drive normally.

Think youll have to go get the codes read. Spending the day at the skidpan wouldnt do it any good.

It's been to the drags, wakefield park and a previous skidpan day with no issues but obviously it increases the chance of issues. It doesnt seem like anything serious though. I was just wondering whether these things had any sort of diagnostic functions like displaying a code on the dash or performing a procedure and getting feedback from the dash. for example: put it into diagnostic mode and if the light flashes 3 times it equals this code, 4 flashes is something else etc..

I thought id get more responses..

Edit: I can get the codes read but not until the weekend. If theres a procedure I can do at home then I'll do it tonight.

mine came on after I just did a full service think it may have been the throttle body cleaner left in the manifold. eng light is usually to do with emissions .

removed neg bat terminal for 10 mins ,re started with no worries.

other than that get your o2 sensors checked out

You can get some obd specific codes using an X3 flash box, but will not give access to all codes.

There is no diagnostic procedure to extract codes, unless you are using a scan tool, once the codes are known then you can endeavour to find out the cause of action to rectify the problem.

There are way too many possible problems, it would be pointless going through them all until you know what codes are present.

Find somebody else to read the codes.

You may have damaged your cat and thus the engine light is on or it might be just from givin it a hard time and running a little rich. I'd get it reset with a scan tool and see if it comes back. I'm happy to do it for you with my scan tool but you probably don't live near me.
