Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 21y 17d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 05/09/10 09:24 AM Share Posted 05/09/10 09:24 AM As has been mentioned they CAN defect you for a stock car, modified car or unroadworthy car, it is up to the Cop's mood and your attitude. As I have mentioned you CAN be defected for an EPA approved kit, engineered or not. Do not kid yourself that just because it comes with a piece of paper the cops will give a crap. You will still have to go through the required tests and may pass, but they CAN defect you again and again and again. Also just because it has been approved by the EPA, does not make the kit legal. EPA controls the noise and emissions, the ADR's control the engineering of the vehicles. As there are so many people involved in what is "legal", you can only really guess what is best. What the EPA says is ok, may not be with ADR's or RTA or police.I had issues with the police on my stock BF F6 when they asked if it had a blowoff valve and I said yes. Most cops would not know a blowoff from an turbo, it will mostly come down to the attitude test.

Posted 05/09/10 11:56 AM Share Posted 05/09/10 11:56 AM Unbelievable, I could maybe understand the steering wheel (it was a genuine MOMO mind you, so I doubt it was unsafe), but a gear knob??!!Just on this, my mate got done for the gearknob. He got it explained that the factory knobs are ADR compliant due to showing the "H" pattern, basically where all the gears are and reverse. Aftermarket knob's dont, so incase of an emergency people who need to move your car will know where all the gears are. You might say well all the gearboxes are the same. Most are such as the aussie and japs ones but some European cars have reverse in a funny spot near first as oppose to near fifth/sixth

So the far the clearest answer has been Don't touch the car. Everyone might not Be able to afford nizpros gear, but the fact is it's all approved so when you do get defected, your not spending up returning the car to stock ( you'll notice they take photos when they EPA you, I'm sure if you returned it to stock enough times they would catch on.)Anyone found proof of this one intake/ one exhaust thing? Posted 05/09/10 09:49 PM Share Posted 05/09/10 09:49 PM Zap is correct on this one. Does not matter that your car is stock or running 50grands worth of mods. If the cop is out to get you he/she will. Your attitude may gain you some brownie points and be let off with a warning, but at the end of the day its down to the opinion of the popo at the time. Ive heard of numerous HSV drivers being pulled up for stock wheels, even a few XR6T drivers have been done for having a turbo. If the cop thinks its wrong your screwed and have the headache of having to get the defect cleared. The cops also know that. They know fully well that they are causing you a headache. They police have to be seen doing something and re-enforcing the propaganda spin that Australia is full of "Hoons". Its easy to get Joe Smith for having forgot to top up his washer bottle, and he becomes a number on how the government are fighting for road safety and a little more pocket lining. This week alone I have seen at least 3 random stops pulling cars in and its my belief that its only going to get worse.

The more you mod the more attention you create. Keep it stock looking and not to noisy and you should be fine I think. It also depends alot where you live unfortunately, if you live in an area where "hoons" are common you will have more chance of being harassed. Although the simple answer is anything which changes the factory power, performance or emissions is illegal, just be sensible and dont cause a scene and you should be fine. He said that regardless of the pod being boxed, its still illegal. He's trying to get it passed but vic has some of the stringest rules in the world in regards to emissions.Oh and he also said that he was unaware of Nizpro kits being engineered, adr yes but not engineered.
