Massive Understeer At The Track, What To Do?

Don't know your Spring rates or Bump and Rebound settings but, I have a BA with 245/35/18 Wheels.

- 4 degrees negative front x 6.5 degrees Castor x 0 Toe

Rear is 2.5 degrees negative x 2mm Toe in

- With the bigger Bars front and rear.

* No issue whatsoever with the handling!

This sums up how to fix your issue of lifting a rear wheel.

so basically get the inside front to lift and it will transfer weight to rear.

keep my 22mm rear bar and maybe put a 30 on?

Here is a pic of my car on a 90 degree turn at EC. See all the weight on the front outer tyre....my understeer problems in a nutshell. That is one corner I just cannot get around without completely backing off.

Got to get the weight off the front of the car.

Hi XR,

The vid and the photo are very helpful.

Looks like the Z only had the benefit of initial turn in.

Looking at them, it confirms to me it needs some more front to rear transfer. The understeer after a few laps is also a good pointer of the front still carrying too much load.......it starts somewhere in the window, and then it gradually goes out of "balance"....ie the grip does not sustain itself equally at both ends of the car. It should maintain balance pretty well over a run if all tyres are seeing similar loads.

Through the driver's seat when correctly set up, you should feel it squat somewhat in the rear when cornering load is applied.

I say that because rear wheel drive passenger based cars basically corner on the outside rear with the front end left to induce cornering yaw.

The rear pad situation....hmmm....not good at all. Those belong in the nearest lake.

It would 'appear' someone needs to check your Shock Absorber settings and your Spring rates.

- I recommend a Phone call/visit to Doug or Peter at 'Heasmans' in Marrickville.

I 'carry' throttle into, thru and out of this Corner!

- If you back off, the Car will automatically go into 'weight induced' understeer!

- Makes the Understeer worse!

The fastest way around a track is not necessarily being the fastest in every corner. Sometimes you have to give a bit in a section to come out on top over the whole lap.

And you have to remember these things are bloody taxi's. Quite flexible taxi's. Not sports cars not matter what the stupid badge on the side or boot says.

And XR listen to Rosie. A bar is an aid. The springs really do the work. But to get a car up to spring weight for the track will make it an absolute pig on the road. An unbearable pig.

Stiffer springs and a whole roll cage to stiffen or keep the chassis together would be good.
