Yep ive decided to get it done at Northfield Macgregor. After searching for a sub box and failing, I gathered some ingredients today from work and will be making my own by the end of the week.

good idea - if you need advice hit smicky up he helped me build mine :stirthepot: why dont you install it yourself?

@anwickes - Mate splits in both the front and back would work fine. Me personally would go with splits in the front and a good set of two way or three way speakers in the back because splits arent really necessary. Run a decent amp to it all and she will be sweet. Make sure your sub and amp are matched too otherwise there is no point even worrying about it :roflmbo:

Ok so I've been given a few quotes, one in particular from 'elite_electronics' (EBAY seller) who admits that his goods are imported but do offer a 1 year warranty on all their items.

He has quoted me $1949 for the following. Should I jump or tell him to rack off?

ALPINE iDA-X305S

ALPINE SPR-17S

ALPINE SPR-17S

ALPINE SWR-1223D

ALPINE MRP-F600

ALPINE MRP-M500

In order for the warranty to work, I need to show proof that a certified installer has installed it. I am being quoted $495 by my local which seems extremely high, $150 for cables (Really!?), $70 for the head unit fitting kit and $230 for the custom sub box. If I knew would cables I'd need, would I be best to source them online? Same goes for the fitting kit. $70 seems ridiculous!!!!

Ace I love to give things a go on my own but in this case im far from confident..

The sub box is going to be one this style:

12inch.jpg

Theres heaps around like this but theyre just too tall to slide into the back.

Will Autobarn have the little RCA panel I need?

Actually I dont know exactly which one to buy..

I think hes talking about the Fasia kit mate:

BA/BF Falcon Head Unit Mounting Fascia - eBay, Other Cars, Bikes, Boats, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 11-Sep-10 23:55:53 AEST)

that's the one I got, looks good quality too.

Like ive said, my quotes were between $450 and $500 for install so yeah its about right..

If youre going to go down the import road, you can probably get things a bit cheaper using

OnlineCarStereo

SonicElectronix

I did a quick add up of your stuff and things came to about $1600 delivered.

I bought stuff from both these places for my system and can vouch for them, delivery was very very quick.

Being from the states, are all the frequencies the same for the radio? Are the units identical?

Also, what happens with warranty if they break? Do you have to send them back overseas?

Honestly I dont know and didnt ask..

Would probably have to send them back overseas and would probably be cheaper to get repaired here or buy a new unit.

Youd still almost come out better off doing that than spending nearly double the price if originally purchased locally..

that's on the off rare chance that something goes wrong, ive never heard anyone I know with an apline system; or any upgraded system for that matter with parts failing.

I think they would have to be identical, they come out of the same factory that builds them.

you said that you had bought there before? Which shop and have you noticed any differences like radio not working etc?

Sorry for hijacking your thread by the way... :S

CLICK.... These are US prices yeah? I think my $1949 is going to be cheaper to be honest once I include shipping etc

Nah I only bought my Polk's from there, not a head unit.

Yep those are US prices so ~$1600 is like $1750.

I assumed your ebay guy elite_electronics was in US.
