Quiescent Current Draw On Xr6T

Guys,

My battery fails to hold a charge after the XR6t sitting for 1 week without use,( I've fitted a new battery )

I would be interested if any of you guys have measured your “Quiescent current” that is the current drawn from the battery by vehicle components that require power when the key is in the “off” position.

That draw includes the ICC, clock, and ECU memory.

Mine has an alarm fitted.

Test yours with a multimeter as generally they should be something around 0.5amp to 0.8amps at most.

I had an earthquake amp years ago drawing current with the system off, 1.2amps from memory and was enough to drop the voltage so the car wouldn't kick over in less than 4 days.

Anything over .04 amps will kill a battery over a week. .02-.03amps is good. Just make sure you wait half hour after connecting meter for car to go to sleep,to get correct reading. They usually read high for approx 15mins to half hour. After that should be below .04. Make sure your boot and glovebox lights arent staying on and if the reading is high,start pulling fuses to try detect which circuit is causing fault.

appreciate thanks very much Guys, so I should see about 30ma/hr (average)after the car goes to sleep. so that's a bit over 5 amps per week,now if everthing is working good on say a standard 50amp/hr battery ,I should get a 2-3 weeks before the battery voltage drops off and unable to start.

Interesting, so pete you can get nearly a month with the car just sitting, with no alternator or battery charger topup.

What capacity battery do you have in your car ?

Another point I would be interested to know,is, does the ni-cads in the siren top up with the key off ?

(luvxr6t must have leakage in the system somewhere.)

Sorry my last post was totally wrong it was .05 (not .5amps) is acceptable as my earthquake was drawing .17amps which was a killer so I'd say your system is drawing to much current.

I'd start with the alarm system!

.1amps is too much. How long was the car sitting for with the multimeter connected? If it was for longer than half hour you have something drawing alot of current. Whilst the multimeter is connected pull each fuse out and see if the reading drops. Pull and refit fuses one by one so you remember where they go. If it drops then something running off that fused circuit is drawing the current.

Thanks very much Guys (bjc and ebxmple) most times it would be a month between starts.

I've put the ma meter on for 1 hour and its reading 100ma or close to it.I'll do as you say and pull the fuses and see if I can get a reduction.

ebxmple do think it might be an alarm drain ?

So what MA reading do you have on your xr6 ?

I'll get to the bottom of this with a little help
