To be honest I've given-up on checking fuel economy except for long trips (just for sh*ts n giggles really). I know you can drive sedately, only use moderate throttle, stay in the middle of your rev range etc. to save fuel but fark that, if it was so important to me I would have got a prius instead. The level of economy is inversely related to the amount of fun you're having, and like you said it's an engine made for performance. What's great about these things is that on long trips you can go for 700 kms without the inconvenience of fueling up, but if you're getting stuck-in (or driving in congested traffic) then you're lucky to get half that. rockafellqeinstien Member 325 Member For: 16y 5m 16d Posted 24/08/10 11:51 PM Share Posted 24/08/10 11:51 PM to put it in perspective, my old man has a caprice V8 with AFM, he drives a bit faster than a normal 65year old but not much. He gets 19 L/100kms. When I drive it I get 13L/100 on the same roads (and I dont nurse it). The reason is that he is always changing the throttle and doesnt hold it steady. The only way to get decent fuel economy in these big cars is to utalise the lean cruise mode which requires bugger all throttle being applied and keep it steady. You could always swap cars with me for the day and I can see how she goes but my turbo is .... uhh .... getting fixed so I would have to give you my mitsubishi mirage

Anyway what ford is saying is that the car was put back to stock but did have a flash tune. They said the cat's internals have broken down as a result of the flash tune, and this is why the fuel consumption is so high. They have also advised me that the cat wont be replaced under warranty because the cars problem is related to the flash tune that the original owner had done. They have advised me to have the cat replaced and have told me that this will bring the fuel usage back down to normal.Any thoughts? ZAP No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! If the cat is blocked and restricting the exhaust, it can cause more fuel consumption.
