Hello,

I am looking to purchase a used FG XR6 or XR6 Turbo for an everyday driver, and I have some questions I'm hoping you fine people can answer for me; you can never rely on dealers to help you out.

1. In regards to buying a XR6 or XR6 Turbo - Regardless of which one I purchase I will most likely upgrade to a better turbo etc. In saying that, would it be cheaper to buy an XR6 and putting a turbo in, or just going with the XR6 turbo.

2. Manual vs Automatic - Either options is fine for me, but what is your opinion.

3. Insurance - What is the cheapest?

4. Performance Shops - Where is the best place to take the cars to for advice/installation/tune ups etc in Sydney.

Appreciate the help; I am new to Ford don't know much about them, crossing over from Holden.

Thanks.

Brendan, Dillz has pointed you at a sensational thread which will give you ALL the answers.

But I am always amazed that newbies always want to start by putting a bigger Turbo in it.

Mate, have ya driven a BF/FG turbo yet? More importantly have you driven a modded turbo yet?

I have 372 kw at the wheels. It is almost TOO much power. Its all stock internals with a base turbo. Guys on here are getting more than me on the stock turbo.

With a few well placed dollars, the thing will pull like a train and punch you in the head like a sledgehammer when ya boot it.

Have a read, enjoy, and you wont go wrong.

Cheers.

I wouldn't say ALL mate but cheers.

I think allot people think 'bigger turbo' because of the import scene, where most riceboy.gif need to upgrade there turbo's pretty much straight away.

Thankfully Ford put a pretty good turbo on to start with.

To answer your first question have a look in the N/A section to see what is actually involved in the conversion. It's most definitely not a case of just bolting a turbo on. And for those in that scenario the standard response is always trade it in unless you're mad/looking for a project to waste time & dollars on.

Oh and :icon_ford:

To be honest Dillz, I have had time to check ALL the links. There is SOOOO much infor there, its amazinf. So you may be right, not ALL, but pretty bloody close.

I agree. Ford pretty much got it right but the base engine , in various formats, has been with us, what, 40 od years (the straight 6 I mean) So bolting a whizzy on it was just one of those things like, "hey, why not" and arent we glad they did?

TAB. YOUR SPOT ON!!! Time and dollars, mainly dollars and that's not even with a project car. lol
