Here in QLD, some range from stock, to modified for highway use... I distinctly remember seeing 2 xr6 t's 2 years ago at the all ford day up here, one from emerald and one from moranbah, both with big ss cold air inductions, and with modified suspension. Apparently according to the officers on show with the cars a modified tune supplied by ford, that raised the performance to that od a typhoon.

Guys, guys guys.

I can put my 2 cents in here having driven both highway AND standard police sedans for over 20 years.

Let me start by giving you one of my favourite quotes, from a very wise man....ME!

"Whats the fastest car in the world?......SOMEONE ELSES"

Think to yourself this. You are handed the keys to more often than not, a stock somewhat high powered car, say an SS Commowhore or a Turbo Falcon, Free petrol and you don't have to worry about the coppers bookin you, CAUSE YOUR THE ONE WITH THE RADAR!!!

So answer yourself, "HOW WOULD YOU DRIVE IT?"""""

Up the Western Highway in Vic up towards Myrniong towards Ballarat, I used to sit on an on ramp, in the days of Doppler Radar, and shoot cars from the rear. As soon as one was about 125 or so (100kph zone), from idle I'd gun it and red line it in every gear to catch the horrendously dangerous speeding driver. Stop the car, write the ticket then go back to my spot, usually not nursing it.

Now we changed oil (not me personally) every 5000 and any mechanical issue was sorted. The interiors were beaten around but in Vic they are rolled over every 40,000k or so and the guys who fit them out do a reasonably good job of not screwing the interior.

No you may say that was thrashing. I never sat in a car park chucking donuts, never bagged it up taking off from the lights. It was was my office and I looked after my car as best as possible, cause if I didn't I'd be one of the statistics I was trying to reduce.

Now, ANY second hand car you buy will have issues. Maybe few, maybe lots. Its a lottery. Police vehicles are pushed to their limits as any 19 year old will push his new toy.

Are they good value? Are they knocked around? Depends what you mean by it. Ive seen cars in dealers that just havent been looked after and they look crap.

So should you buy one. No reason not to, however, I personally wouldn't, but then I don't like fleet vehicles of any kind, even though I didn once buy an ex ORIX car. But if there was a car in a dealer and it was an ex cop car, I wouldn't NOT buy it just cause of that.

I would definately be looking at underbody damage and signs it had been pranged. That would be all I would look for though. Anything else is internal (pistons, rods etc)

I have seen some of my old cars on the road. Re registered but I know them. Some cars were great (XE 351, VL Turbo, VH Commowhore, VT SS) some were absolute crap and the top of my list for that one is the VK Crapadore. What a heap of SH!TE!!!!

So there ya have it. For a guy who did his fair bit of thrashing in cars belonging to someone else and who didnt pay for petrol. God I miss it. Now I pay for my own petrol AND speeding fines (That bit I hate)

Now please don't abuse me. I'm one of you lot now.

Cheers. :icon_ford::w00t2:
