Hot off the presses, the upgraded XR6T is due for release October 2004. Out goes the T5 gearbox and In goes a 6 speeder, the same one in the Expensive Daewoo HSV V8's. The auto is being replaced with a (speculated) Jaguar S-type.

Bad news the GTHO will probably be at least 2 years away, supercharged 5.4ltr making around 360kW with 'astonishing' torque levels from low revs.

Any particular press this news is hot off?

November 'MOTOR' Magazine page 12. The HO article is on pg 13

There's also a good article on the FPV GT v HSV 285kW.

And a good article on cracking 300kph, you will never guess what was the fastest car @ 309kpa is................

Mmmmm, sounds like our next car. You have to plan ahead ;)

What did Motor have to say in the GT/HSV dribble fest (l am not a big fan of the Motor/Wheels twins)?

R8 VERY quick @ 5.36 0-100 & 13.56 1/4. Also Clubsport better ultimate grip and slightly better brakes.

BUT, GT 10k cheaper, better ride and handling and MUCH nicer to drive.

Same as the evolving evaluation of the turbo - sweet car, but not as quick as some of the hype would suggest - at least on the track.

Julian Edgar has been canned by some on this forum. But I am grateful to him for a lot of useful info - not the least of which is the fact that a great car on the track and on similar roads can be crap on real roads, where we spend most of our time. (He hated the 350Z for that reason).

I love Ford's approach of building performance cars that are great to drive in the real world. Those looking for the ultimate, balls out, uncompromising race performance may be best to shop elsewhere!

But, realistically, most of us spend most of our time driving on crappy roads in real world conditions - and that's where the Fords excel. I don't have any hassles about a HSV driver telling me his car is faster. My car is BETTER (for me) and that's what counts as far as I'm concerned!

Have to smile at the w*nkers that put up with atrocious ride and all the negatives that go with it, just so they can say their car is a fraction of a second quicker round a race track. On ordinary roads they'd be slower because of the difficulty driving when you're being thrown around like a coffee bean in a grinder.

Worth going back to basics and looking at the original meaning of GT - not a lot to do with race tracks!

Sorry Mondie - long winded answer to your question!

Regards

Thanks Zeke.

5.36 is amazing, well done HSV

The reason l am such a fan of FPV and before that, FTE is the overall package they engineer. Seems like that shone through on the comparison.

HSV hit back hard and that's gonna be good for upcoming FPV models.

Cheers.

Sorry Redhawk,

The article actually states that FPV’s new 6 speed is believed NOT to be the same 'clunky-but-strong' unit in the Expensive Daewoo and HSV V8's.

Bloody awesome times for the 285 Clubbie. To this day, MOTOR have never got a good time from a GT with 13.9 their best. I don't understand why when many non-professional drivers have achieved as low as 13.7 for stocky units and that was in an auto!

Yep your right CDAA, my speed reading is not as good as it used to be.

I was surprised at them not using the Tremec but $14 million just to retool etc; for a new bell housing

So what 6 speeder will they use.

Because they leave TC on. That's why. I bet if they turned it off it'd make a difference. Plus, no offence to motor, but the GT would be alot different to the HSV as far as getting it to punch the mits. So having the same driver test both cars, isn't the best go.
