Caltex gets set to pump up E85

2 August 2010

OIL company Caltex Australia has started rolling out its Bio E-Flex-branded E85 ethanol-petrol fuel pumps across Australia to coincide with the national launch of Holden’s E85-capable VE Series II Late model camira around October.

The oil company has promised 31 E85 outlets in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra by October 1, with expansion to 100 metropolitan and regional locations by mid 2011.

I think it is too expensive, the main reason people will adopt the new technology will be to save $$, not save the environment. People have taken up gas on cars becuase it used to cost about 1/4 of the price of petrol.

It cost 30 less than regular petrol $1 a litre vs $1.30 a litre(inflated figures, pertrol in geelong on the cheaper days is now always under $1.20.

It burns 15% more and 'motorists should come out ahead'

Maybe as more retailers sell it, it will get cheaper but I doubt it.

so if I got injectors, fuel pump and cat done, and an e85 tune it would take about 4 years to pay for itself?

cant wait. Looks like its time for new injectors...

Unfortunatlly im not to keen on the flux from the ethanol levels varying from 70 - 85%. Dont know how the motor will last when you tune it to e85 and then you get a low level ethanol batch...

United doesnt have the 'flux'.

If the quality control is good then it'll be great for alot of high boost stock motors, but if its up and down in quality, there could be issues.

Had a sketchy batch of 100 last week, car lost alot of power so shows the quality of 100 is up and down, usually is great.
