Hi guys,

Just looking for advise so I decided id join up.

Im looking to purchase a XR6t, id like to spend $15-17k and im looking for a lower model BA-mk2.

This will be my daily. I had originally wanted a zf 6 speed, but due to the fact they all seem to be over $20,000 its really ruling one out for me. I won't be looking to make this car super powerful, but I will be covering alot of km's.

Im just wondering, for mostly highway driving, does the turbo variant use much more fuel than a regular xr6? Also, will the 4 speed gearbox give me significant economy and performance detriments?

Coming from a Expensive Daewoo with a 4L60E im use to having an unintelligent clunker of a gearbox. But I don't want it to completely destroy the car.

Thanks for your advise guys :)

Highway cruising they are barely doing much more than idling so there'd be bugger all difference in economy compared to an NA. In the BA mk II I think the manual is slightly more fuel efficient than the 4-speed auto, not sure by how much though.

The 4-speed auto is still a pretty good box, not as sharp and intelligent as the ZF, but still very decent compared to what 'that other mob' put in theirs. With a proper rebuild it can handle all sorts of power with ease as well.

Its a shame you can't get into a BF with a six speed ZF, there a much nicer car.

However, if you can get a BA MK2 that's not to bad either....just see if you can find an unmolested low klm vehicle and you can't really go too far wrong.

As for fuel economy, this is DIRECTLY related to your right foot.....

Driven sensibly, you'll get pretty reasonable economy but if to get stuck into it.....be ready to visit the servo....often. :stirthepot:

I know, I would love a BF =/

Its just right now I really do think you can get a nice BA BA mk 2 for $13,000 odd if you shop hard enough, and however I look at it that's $8000 less than a BF.

I'll be coming from a supercharged v6 vt S pac commodore, so anything will be a huge step up in refinement and speed. But you never know, if I could get a BF for $18,000, it could be realistic.

Mate, auctions is the place to be. If your confident in understanding a car, you can pick up a bf series two for 16.... I know coz I did :D

No Ba1

Should I only be looking at II's?

I wasnt aware of the differences

Auto's not really, that's still cheap for a BA. Didn't think they were that low yet.
