hey guys, only had my t for a few weeks now, but recently have noticed that once the car is turned off that I can hear the turbo spooling down. I can hear the sound of the shaft spinning on the bearings I think. I know about the idling after a drive, but never noticed the soind before and im not sure if its cause I've just started to pay attention to it or whether there is a problem? Havent owned a turbo before so im not sure if I should be able to hear it spinning or not? CAn hear it with the bonnet down and standing at the front of the car

Well you are right you will always hear this but along with so many other things you will find from hundreds of hours of reading and searching on this site go and change/ check the oil supply filter from the block so this noise doesnt turn critical like mine was close to. I love beeeeeeeeer!!!

Mine does this to. Get yourself one of these asap FALCON XR6 F6 TURBO OIL SUPPLY BRAIDED LINE KIT FILTER - eBay Turbos, Superchargers, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 02-Aug-10 15:12:42 AEST)

The standard filter for the turbo oil supply line is tiny if or when you get the kit throw it over your shoulder. Here how to get to your oil supply line filter http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=32461&st=0

When I heard this noise I freaked aswell. I ended up timing the turbo wind down for some reason. Anyway I could hear it wind down for about 25sec. After changing the oil supply line and filter with the aftermarket one I timed it again and now I can hear it wind down for almost 1min.

If you can, take off the intake pipe to the turbo. There is another pipe you will have to take off aswell as it is just in the way. Presuming its a B series car all you will need is a 7mm socket (unless hose clamp has been changed then its usually an 8mm). Check the turbo impeller once it has cooled down for shaft play. Basically left to right, up and down, in and out there shouldnt be much more play than about 1mm side to side and virtually nothing in and out. Check for scrathes too. I have a very small scratch on the inside of mine but over about 8months hasnt got any worse watsoeva + im running higher boost. Im by far no expert on this stuff just spent plenty of time reading through forums. Good luck spoton.gif
