guys, I to want to know what would be the best intercooler for roughly 300rwkw and a little more. I have looked at all the intercoolers that have been listed over the last 3 pages and alot of them are relatively insufficient in design is regards to air flow having the same 180* small bend back to the manifold. the is a lot of talk about 'yes I have it and I think it works great' but not a lot of theory behind these statements. I am not saying they are false by any means but I just want solid info before I make a purchase

Ratter rote:

I checked my dyno results, BA XR6T using a fpv cooler and a tune of approx 11-10 psi picked up 17-18 degrees iat temp increase over a dyno run, with a decent cooler and using 15 psi you may see an increase of 5-7 degrees in the iat.

this is good info. I am assuming that this 17-18* is up from the standard intercoolers temps. are there any more teats like these or products that have documented results like this? just recently I stumbled across this, and lets use it as an example.

HDI INTERCOOLER KIT-FORD FALCON BA/BF XR6 TURBO -HYBRID - eBay Engine Modifications, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 17-Aug-10 11:16:48 AEST)

I like the more efficient flow design but is an intercooler like this sufficient? if I were to up my PIS to 10 or 11 would this cooler be effective enough to bring the temps down to ambient? I understand that for a 100% efficient cooler the it should bring the temps down to ambient and for there to be no pressure drop. I understand that in reality its impossible to obtain. this in mind I do understand that a cooler can be to big despite the inevitable CalaisTurbo claims of "I put a massive cooler on my vl and it runs heaps better and there is no lag".

this being said I dont have a massive budget, but am willing to buy what I feel is going to be the best for my car. I don't want to put rubbish on my car (not that the above product is such a product). Any and all advice would be much appreciated

Do what I've done and stalk the forums for a second hand nizpro or process west or something. I'm just about to fit mine up to stock crossover once I get the correct pipe. There was one on here for only $500, check the for sale section. I'm not a fan of cutting to fit, and I hear the nizzy don't need that.

Have a look in the for sale section now mate...

There is a Nizpro cooler for sale at $500 and there is another chap selling a piping kit (stainless) to suit for an additional $400...

All told, a competent little package for less than $1k!

Go for it.

I dont know bout you......but I wouldn't look past a truck cooler cut down to size, just make sure u get the correct measurements.....that's if you want the cheaper option!!! have seen a cooler on bench test holding 40psi for 12 hours on a 40 something degrees day!! otherwise I have been told plazmaman coolers are pretty good!

do yourself a big favour and dont skimp. 300rwkws seems like f*ckall these days but its still around a 70% increase in engine output. get a proven good quality kit such as rapid, process west or even nizpro. they seem to be in the doghouse at the moment but even the haters say there coolers work. cant believe the monza argument is still going. there absolute rubbish.

I've heard on here the latest work from Nizpro is of lower quality but it's anecdotal so who knows. I've got the earlier cooler anyway so win/win :) Process west would be my next pick I reckon after what I've read, maybe a hybrid systems (HDI).
