Yeah mate I've done it....2 x 2.25 stainless mercury hotdogs.....and no groan....you'll only get groan leaving the centre muffler and removing the rear. I also changed the oval tip to twin straight cut 2.5 dual wall stainless ones. Could have just had the stock centre muffler cut out for around $80 but I wanted to retain the original section if I wanted to return it to stock. And just recently had a rear sports muffler fitted for $180 as I broke the honeycombe in the stock rear muffler with so much extra flow. I also wanted to get resonators/hotdogs inplace of the rear muffler, but was warned slightly against it saying it would have a very tractorish sound. I would love to do it eventually with hotdogs, but as it currently is, it's pretty loud. Then later if u need to save coin possibly retain the centre piece if you were to go say custom 4inch dump with 2x 2.5's. That is what I have done exhaust note sounds pretty good..This was the original plan for myself but I gotta deal with another exhaust that I cant refuse. From what I can gather, like you already said removing one muffler, either centre or rear will make it drone a bit. I'm pretty keen to swap my mufflers as well (only to get a bit more sound out of it, not worried about more power yet ) but don't want it to drone.
