going in for the magic 300 tune shortly, will the factory exhaust flow enough with the addition of a high-flow cat?

I would like to give it a crisp note, but not overly loud. I can't stand the truckspec noises though.

I was considering trying something like removing the both mufflers and replacing the rear with an xforce stainless w/dual outlet.

any suggestions regarding both flow and producing a nice sound would be appreciated.

cheers :hohum:

I think highflow cat will be enough for 300. Full Xforce are only like 1500 anyway.

I did cat and removed center mufflers and got 350rwkw...

High flow cat is definitely enough...

I made a little over 300 rwkw with a high flow cat and standard exhaust in a BF ute but the power wasn't reliable. I was really felt it at the drags and after removing the old spark plugs you could tell the exhaust gases were not escaping quick enough. Just installed a turbo back xforce 4 inch dump into 2.5 twin mild steel. I couldn't believe how quiet it is (after 100km of driving) and how much better the engine feels. Also your boost levels don't fall away as the rpm increase. I would strongly recommend getting a exhaust system if you want to make 300 rwkw safely. I know people may disagree with me but if you decided not to get an exhaust, after going to the drags or do a couple of track day pull your spark plugs out and have a look at them. :roflmbo::buttonit:

thanks for those replies, want to keep costs down so not going will a full system at this stage.

interesting post though Gee I will definitely consider that in the future.

the idea with the xforce muffler is that I thought it might produce a crisper sound being a mild steel system ending in a stainless muffler,

any opinions on that?

interested in the resonator idea DOHC6T, have you done this on yours? does it still groan like a truck or is this absorbed?

I read a thread where the bloke said that the best sound he's had was mild steel pipes with stainless mufflers - gave a nice crack from the stainless mufflers...but every person has a different opinion about what sound good!

That's an XR8 though, sounds a lot different I'd say? Can be hard to find 6T vids of specific exhausts :(
