Ford readies diesel as turbo dies of thirst

FORD has quietly killed off the turbocharged version of its Australian-made Territory soft-roader.

The local car maker confirmed to Drive that the Territory Turbo Ghia model has been axed as a result of the stricter vehicle emissions regulations that came into effect on July 1.

What a waste.This has been the best Ford I have ever owned.Stealth,Power and grip is the go.

I am sure they could of sold a couple of hundred thousand in the US if Ford let them in.

Why didnt they let some tuner have a go at tuning the things properly to get another 100kms out of the tank.I get a easy 650km out of 70 litres on the sydney/Brisbane run for the past 3 years.

Assume it was the BF engine that got the chop?

Surely they could have whacked the FG in there and still be OK? Or is it a case of why bother if the diesel is coming?

Ford Australia updated the turbocharged version of its locally built 4.0-litre in-line six-cylinder for the 2008 FG Falcon to ensure it complied with the new Euro IV emissions laws, though admits sales didn't justify modifying the engine for the Territory.

"We did the engineering work for the Falcon sedan [XR6 Turbo], obviously, to meet Euro IV, but we didn't see enough of a market to do the work for the Territory version," says company spokeswoman Sinead McAlary.

"It was always a niche vehicle and [sales] in the last couple of years had declined. So it was even more niche as people became more concerned about the cost of fuel."

It is sad that the Turbo variant will be no longer, seeing as the rest of the range continues to sell well, even as in its present iteration, its far from fresh. I suppose that the turbo examples out there will become somewhat scarce, not that you expect that to be reflected in used vehicle values... :roflmbo:

One thing Im sure of though, and that is no matter how the diesels are modded and retuned, they will never come close to the all-round performance of the petrol turbo.. As to fuel consumption, injection gas is still comfortably cheaper that diesel.

2011 Ford Territory Diesel On Track, No LPG Or Four-Cylinder Models Planned

" Ford Australia has confirmed that the upcoming V6 turbo-diesel version of the Territory is on track for a 2011 launch, although it won't be joined by an LPG model or four-cylinder entry-level model."

The 2.7l V6 diesel is a crock. Old tech, out of the ark stuff.

140Kw & 440Nm from 2.7 litres just does not cut the mustard. I was going to wait for the Diesel Terry until I found out that this was the engine. Nearly cried.

that's when I decided on the Korean. 2.2 litre, Common rail, electonically variable vane Turbo, Bosch Pietzo injectors = 145Kw & 445Nm working a 6 speed.

No comparison really.

basicly the same power and torque but with the added weight of the tezza it may be a slug
