What I have found amazing during this election campaign is the sheer lack of questioning of Dullard and Co on costings....ie intensely question a $6b internet plan but blindly accept a $43b+ one (that was worked out on the back of an envelope and a couple of days "discussions"). Breathtaking stuff for it's lack of process, thought and rigour. What a gamble.

Here is a good read about this to get some sensible thinking into it:

How The Labor Proposed NBN Could Be A Total Disaster - Smarthouse

At last reality. This article is 100% spot on.

Hmmm I wonder if the libs front man will even win his own seat at this election?

Please remind me why Howard lost not only the last election, but even his seat?

I'm a tradesman and I know when work was hard to come by around two years ago the money spent by the current government creating jobs kept me employed. I'm the first to admit that the money may have been spent more wisely but the flow on effect of having me employed can't be underestimated.

For starters I'm not getting paid umemployment benefits. I drive to and from work, paying fuel tax. I'm using my car which wears things out, keeping the local tyre shop and mechanic busy.I have to keep my car registered and insured, most of which is spent on tax. When I get to work I'm installing equipment, purchased locally, keeping the local supplier busy. I go to the local bottle shop on the way home, grab a few drinks and a pack of ciggarettes, remind me of how heavily they are taxed? I decide that I'm going to go out for dinner once a week, keeping the local restaurant busy who has many staff and paying more tax. On the weekend I go to the hardware store, buy stuff to renovate my house and maybe a few things for the garden.

You can see that all of these things I do when I'm employed keep others employed and others paying tax, I wouldn't be doing any of these things if I was on the dole. There would be many others in my situation.

If you want to have a winge about the stimulus package rip-offs direct your anger at the greedy small business people who took the government for a ride at our expense. I agree that the handouts should have been more tightly controlled.

I've already voted Labor via post as I'll be working on a government funded project on Saturday and wont be able to get to a polling booth.

Fire away.

On a related note if you dont fill out the ballet paper that is leave it blank the votes go automatically to the party all ready in power.

So this means latham's protest vote is a vote for labor.

No they don’t Ian. The point behind that is that nobody gets your vote or the $2.50 (or whatever it is) in electoral funding.

Please remind me why Howard lost not only the last election, but even his seat?

Because they whacked a high-profile media identity against him, that the electorate now realise is next to useless and is likely to lose the seat again. :buttonit:

Who said that the Coalition didn’t support economic stimulus to create/keep these jobs? Unless of course you believe the Labor/Union campaign advertisements that are just blatant lies.

Where the hell did you get that idea from? I've never heard anything so rediculous.

Fire away.

What's there to fire at? If that's your situation and befief, then so be it. You're situation sounds just like Millions of others to me. It's just that others were not or are not affected the same way you think you were. Nothing to debate in my view.

I am only young and this will be the first time I vote, this thread has made politics interesting to me.

Workchoices seems fair to me, really its only the people who arent good at there job that will get the arse, the harder workers may benefit from that :ARFiring:

I do believe that labor have taken the credit for preventing a recession in wich they used all of our hard earned money (howard gov).

As far as im concerned with boat people take a look as to what would happen to us if we rocked up on a boat to another country? I can assure you we would not be put up in 5star hotels and be brought cigarettes. TURN AROUND OR YOU WILL BE FIRED UPON seems fair enough to me and would be a good deterant.

I agree with you %100. john howard did amazing things for this country considering the financial f#ck labour left it in, and I think if you are good at what you do you will have a job, unions protect the under achiever and it sh*ts me. thier are always exceptions to what I am saying and I know that but I honestly believe if you work hard you can get a job

I still find it so hard to believe people watch the TV ads and believe every word of it. Take any one sentence out of context and it easily proves any point they want to make....and that is what everyone is being fed and that is what the masses are swallowing. It is much easier to sell a government that is handing out money left right and centre, hence Labor will win. I think the analogy comes down to this, if you were a 6 year old, would you rather be handed a lolly or have to work for it to pay for it yourself?

Abbott didn't oppose stimulus, he opposed the amount of stimulus and the direction the funds were going. I mean insulation in roofs that was imported from China for f&^%s sake. How much better could that money have been spent. Abbott wanted to pump money in quickly, but leave enough in reserve as no one knew what was going to happen in the near future. What did everyone do with their $900? Do you understand how much of that money went overseas? To say you have a job thanks to Labor is only a very small part of the picture which they are taking complete credit for. Johnny got us out of Bob/Paul's 13 year reign, 17% interest rates and the recession "We had to have". Labor are here to tax you, understand that. Go and buy a six pack of Jim Beams and a pack of smokes and you're up for over $40. Remember they even put the tax on alcopops before it was passed, the arrogance is astonishing. When it was knocked back they kept the money! This Labor government has time and time again just done things without approval.

How many jobs do you think would be out there today if the ETS passed? Do you think you would still be employed? Who are we going to trade carbon with, NZ? Remember the ETS will be passed when Labor gets voted back in.

I think there are more questions to be asked than to just say, Labor saved my job by spending amounts of money that have never before been seen in Australia. The good old Labor way. What you should be asking yourself is, how would the Libs have managed the GFC and how much would we be in debt now? How long is it going to take to pay for Labor's spending and how will that affect me in the future. Stop thinking short term, start thinking about your own mortgage, the more you borrow the more you have to pay back. Two ways to do it, cut back or get more money, where do you think Labor is going to get that money from? You and me.
