Radio / Demister Problem

My sons BF Xr6 has an issue with the radio. When you turn on the rear demister the radio reception turns to sh*t, its as if the radio antenna has become disconnected. It is not affected for cd or mp3 only the radio.

Did a search on the forum but couldn't find anything.

Would appretiate any advice.

I have this issue with my wifes n/a. Got my car serviced yesterday, aparently this issue is not that common but the only fix Ford offered is to replace the whole windshield. I spoke to the 'service advisor' and he said there was a broken connection somewhere? when I asked for more detail he couldnt tell me any more, he was just reading notes from the mechanics.

Too bad he couldnt provide more info on it, if you car is still under warranty, they should replace the rear windscreen

I'd start by making sure the antenna amplifier is plugged in properly and the bolt that holds it down is grounded properly. This amplifier box is also the power "conduit" for the rear demister power.

It's located on passenger C pillar. Just have to pull trim off (its just clipped on, so just pull).

If you pull the drivers C pillar cover off, check to make sure the demister ground is plugged in properly and the plug hasn't cracked and fallen off the window... Or has a poor ground against the body. If the ground is bad, it may be trying to ground backwards via the antenna amp and that's causing the problem.

Worst case, the antenna amp has shat itself and needs to be replaced. It's like a $5 item from the wreckers, and there should be plenty out there to grab and test with.
