Just for the record - quote was...

"I don't know that there will actually be another Ford Falcon from the Melbourne factory under this size, or platform"...

(or something like that)...

All I can say is - if this guys sits in a board room with the heads of state where the flag is flown out the front - planning what is required to hold these things together, parts requirements, and build schedules one would assume the guys would 'maybe, just maybe' have some idea what his talking about?

No?

So in short, if his at Ford, talking about the next roll out, and they say - hold for xyz for xxx period, then he knows... If he tells Ford sorry no abc part - Fords production line - well, quite simply comes to a holt until he can get more abc123's...

(and yes he supplys Holden, Toyota, and the aircraft component companies all with the same form of parts...)

Again I said his comment was - "I don't know that there will be another Ford Falcon from Melbourne"...

:sold:

Mind you this was after a lot of eatting at his dining table, 2 bottles of wine between the girls (his wife and the gf), and a few dram shots he and I polished off...

:spit:

There's a good story on the Taurus in the latest Topgear magazine, probably won't necessarily be a bad thing once it happens.

AWD turbo V6 :turboboink:

I for one will have to see what they bring out IF they eventually stop building teh Falcon in OZ.

The second they go to a front wheel drive platform they will lose my dollars that's for sure.

A Focus would be a far better car to buy if you want a front wheel drive (small to mid sized euro built).

A front wheel drive US built, large car? Not thanks FORD OZ.

FORD should avoid anything designed in the US like the plague and work with their EURO designers to come up with teh next Falcon if its going to be a new global platform.

USA designed cars are in general Horrible with only a few stand out exceptions.

Taurus SHO is a traverse mounted V6 with heavy and pointless fuel sapping 2,200kg high friction AWD driveline with dulled chassis response.

This ain't going to do much for the Ford fleet fuel economy is it?

The AWD SHO has fuel economy worse than an F6 despite having DI. It is also coarser due to V6 configuration and furthermore has a lower torque plateau.

AWD is what people bought in th 1990's for chassis stability before the advent of DSC.

DSC/TC and now agility control make AWD useless unless you are running 400kw in a relatively light chassis. AWD is literally a drag in terms of weight and driveline friction.

Most AWD are so in name only, they are really FWD with an afterthought coupling for marketing purposes; in general they are just overweight overwrought FWD's, see R32 etc

RWD with DSC is the new 4WD ;)

Regards,

aa

So he doesn't even work for ford? :stirthepot::stirthepot:

Does he 'need' to actually work directly for Ford, when he sits in the ivory tower every time he is there?

:beerchug:

I would take a stab and think that the 'critical' suppliers that have been so for years and years and years, know the inventory levels, planed builds and near every details of the production line... hhhmmm

Ford Aus is the only car maker not running at a loss. And has been for a few years I believe. And with sales figures 2/3rds of Holdens.

Surely they would not be that dumb as to cut the only car that is really ours that they make.
