Broke a rear wheel stud on girlfriend's taxi this week.

Replaced the wheel stud on Deb's taxi tonight, and the bearing definitely has to come off the axle.

I tried saving the bearing for re-use by first pressing off the collar with a bearing separator and the hydraulic press.

The collar came off fairly easily, but when I tried the same with the bearing the bearing cage bent out of shape as soon as I put significant pressure on it. So much for re-using it. And, unlike last time, I didn't screw up and bend the new press...

The seal came off easily enough. The ABS rotor wasn't so easy, and I ended up using a crowbar between the hub backing plate and the ABS rotor. I was careful to not bend the ABS rotor - bending it would have meant that ABS wouldn't work (had a bent ABS rotor on a previous car for a while).

Luckily, I had a Timken 2985 bearing kit here (that was going to go on my car) so I pressed that on to the axle.

I was particularly careful with putting everything back on the axle in the correct order, including making sure that the holes in the ABS rotor matched up with the holes in the hub plate.

I'll add some photos later.

I did the whole drill the back plate when I put longer hi tensile studs in for my spacers...
