As this is a fairly new procedure, the long term effects are still not known, but it is a permenant solution. The operation also removes a small gland at the top of the stomach that gives your brain the "dieing of hunger" type pangs. You sometimes actually need to remind yourself to eat. I have not felt hungry since my operation, but I do not know if this will last. So far I am 5kg less today than I was on Tuesday. It was funny in the hospital, 2 nurses wanted their husbans to do the operation. Both had refused as they were big beer drinkers and knew this Op would prevent them from drinking heaps.I guess we as humans have the ability to help or hurt ourselves and sometimes will not do anything until it is too late. Quitting smoking 3 years ago was still the best thing I ever did, but wished I had listened to all the older people who told me to stop over the years. For anyone who is interested, THIS PLACE seems to have a bit of good info on the whole procedureThere is also a Support ForumEveryone needs to remember you only have one life and you need to make the most of what you have or try to make it better. This is a significant step which I'm sure will be successful, and you and your family will benefit from. You're not alone in trying to keep the weight down for a number of years. I've been too short for my weight for years....theoretically I should be 6'4"!!

There are foods that are find for some, but not others. For me Broccli would not go through unless it was blended up, yet I could eat some breads. My mother inlaw has had it for 4 years and lost over 50kg with her band, but is now slowly putting it back on.I would not recommend a band for anyone now, as it is just too restrictive and ineffective over the long term. It was good to sleep in my own bed last night and not be woken ever 2 hr by a nurse wanting to take my blood pressure and temp
