What is the general rpm limit for a straight 6? I know a v8 is somewhere around 7200 rpm

After that the power gain is minimal

nah you don't need to, but you need decent rpm to spin big boost to run big MPH. If you have a 2-step limiter set at 4500rpm for example to build boost, then your rpm limit is set at 7000rpm, its not alot of usable power to get down the track.

The goal posts change when it comes to bigger cube motor, trans choice, then obviously diff ratio etc etc

but another 1000cc for the ford, and on top of that its a strokey motor. lots of air being pushed out exaust valves with a stroke of 99mm. no one yet has dumped a sh*t load of cash on one of these things....

Be patient............ Alot of you underestimate the harmonics of the Barra 4.0L and it's possibilities, this will not be the case soon... :buttrock::buttrock:

I have always been a skyline/supra man, but these engines from ford are so good and have sooo much potential. its almost as if they have fluked it. every engine has a bad harmonic, that's why big performance costs $$$

who says u need to exceed 8500 rpm ?? u think one of those 2j's would last forever at 11,000 rpm ?? 3.4 stroker supras have an rpm limit of 8500 also. or thereabouts dependidng on their confidence lol. rpm kills engines, esp piston engines....

Yes but by changing the stroke they change the engine harmonics how the engine makes it's power.

Read SPIKO's build thread, that should show you what's currently possible with our 4.0l straight 6. If the motor he is building won't rev it's tits off further and make more power than anyone else has I'll take a load to the face from peter north.
