There is a term amongst the japanese drag scene called RH9. Its given to a car that can run 9 second quarter miles on street legal tyres and pump fuel. Mainly skyline gtr's with 4wd. quite a few in japan and the U.S.A and a few in Aus I think (don't know if we cheat and use Japanese octane levels 100+).

Do we have any falcons able to do this now or how close are we?

A guy I know from here has an R34 GTR with RH9 number plates. Not 100% sure if it will run a 9 on street tyres but. That same year at autosalon my mates Skyline made 996awhp and it will easy run a 10 on street tyres before he gets booted for no cage.

I dare say we will never get there with the falcons but. Its the AWD that does it.

The biggest problem we have, IMO, is that because the falcons are so big and heavy we need big power to make the MPH for 9 and 10 sec runs, so this poses a problem from a launch point of view. Too much power and not enough road speed means that the cars are blowing away the street tyres before they can get moving. Build a falcon that weighs something like 1200kg and you'll see these times on street tyres...

The term RH9 has been around for many years but not thrown around as much these days as getting a street GTR into the 9s isnt a huge deal in the Jap tuning world.

I still have some of the old HPI DVDs and seeing what those guys were doing over 10 years ago is mind blowing. It would be nuts to see a Ford Falcon XR6 9 sec street car I just dont think we will. If someon ewas that keen on owning something that fast for the street they would go out and buy a VL lol, which most do :P
