Hey guys and gals,

Recently, say the last 2 weeks my car has been struggling to start. The car is a BF II XR6T, zf auto. This morning for instance, was very cold, about 0 degrees when I started it up, turn the key to accessories, let the pump prime, then turn the ignition on. The just would just crank and wouldnt turn over, then I heard a POP sound, after about 3-5seconds of cranking (lol), turned the car off and tried again and it started. When I got to work, I pressed the boot release button and there was a loud chatter as if something was jamming, got out and the boot was open, but would not close (lock) and it continued to chatter if I pressed the button, after a couple of goes it finally locked and the switch was back to normal. I then tried pressing the switch with the boot open and it just made the usual opening sound, no chattering.

This is the first time the boot has played up like that, but probably to 4th or 5th time the car has struggled to turn over. But this mornings was the worst.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Maybe an electrical fault somewhere? Still has new car warranty on it so I might get it checked out at Ford if its something I cant pin point.

Cheers,

Keelan

As I read over what I typed, I think it would be my battery? Cars an 2007, low voltage might cause the boot solenoid to chatter and then stick open, and cause it to not turn over quick enough...

Just checked the water in the cells, and it was very low, topped it up with some distilled water and checked them with a hydromator, 1250 is a fully charged battery, my highest cell was just over 1100. Checked the voltage and if the alternator was charging. The cranking volts drops to 8v.

Is it worth getting another genuine motorcraft battery or just buy aftermarket?

Cheers

either but get a good one not a cheap one they dont last.

It is the cold weather that has done this the batteryy would be not to bad when the weather is hotter.

we go though batteries everyy two years here in stanthorpe as the weather gets very cold in winter down to -12 at times.

I too think need a new battery. I changed it about 2 years or so ago. I can't believe they last around 2 years. The battery in my last car (EF Falcon) lasted 4 years.

I have a BA MKII 4sp Auto Turbo. What's the best battery to go for? Make model amps etc... more info the better and oh price!

Thanks...

I have an Opima Yellow Top D75/25 Deep Cycle battery it has 650CCA most of the Highway Patrol cars use the Optimas...Mine cost around $345...but you can probably find it cheaper if you look hard enough.

Optima Yellow Top D75/25

CA 810

CCA 650

AH 48

RC 98

Not sure if that means anything to you...lol

Thanks for that... hmm how much are they? Also, does this battery directly replace the factory one? I mean remove old battery and install new battery into the "plastic black cover/holder"???
