xrt Member 160 Member For: 16y 6m 28d Posted 21/06/10 09:50 AM Share Posted 21/06/10 09:50 AM the seatbelt on my drivers seat retracts quickly sometimes like it should, but other times it just stays slack and I have to feed it back through the slot by hand. its pretty dangerous while driving because if I lean forward then back the seat belt is now slack and wouldnt do sh*t all in the event of a crash.ive had 2 ba's now and both of them have done this, so has anyone else had this problem?if so how did you fix?cheers. Dirt and grime on the belt clogs up the reel mate....just draw the belt all the way out and give it a good scrub with some upholstery cleaner. Worked for me..... Works great again, car smelt strongly of cleaning product though hahaha. Get it cleaned ASAP, as you said it's dangerous with a capital S. For split skull! Posted 21/06/10 02:10 PM Share Posted 21/06/10 02:10 PM (edited) I had same issue.pulled belt all way down, and on the tip of the belt and inside the retractor I sprayed wd-40 while I kept retracting and pulling on the belt. Local ford dealer wanted to charge me $88NZ/hour to fix it....couldnt stop laughing, I just wanted them to replace the BS thing. WD40 a dry lubricant? or just mech cleaner? Don't be tempted to use anything too aggressive like strong solvents....this can affect the integrity of the webbing. If you have to use a spray to clean the reel.....try some CRC contact cleaner.
