I am going to be painting my center console unit. Is it possible to take off the ICC facial panel without taking the whole ICC unit out?? I want to take all panels from cup holder up to gauge pod out but still be able to drive my car. Also a repair manual I have on xr6's says to disconnect battery before doing any removal due to air bag system? This correct?

pretty sure you have to take the icc out to get the fascia off as its screwed in from the back if I recall. The most trouble I had was trying to get my hand up underneath to unplug the 4 plugs in the bottom of it, took me a good half an hour :stupid: I had another fascia that I painted then swapped them over so I was still able to drive in the meantime

ICC needs to come out to remove the facia off it. The facia parts are pretty small and I wouldn't try plug them back into where the ICC goes once you remove the cover from it.

Mine has been in pieces for a week while I got the front panel of the ICC sprayed and the car hasn't moved in that time.

As for the airbag, its recommended to remove the battery and let it sit there for 15 or so minutes before you remove it, just incase. Also sit it facing up onto the ground so if it does explode it doesnt go flying up and do some big damage.

here is the back side of the ICC face, all the screws are circled.

also here is the three main parts that come off it

and all the small pieces which come off it

Was going to do it shadow chrome to be different and dust would not show up as much, but you can't go past piano black for that classy look. Jet black paint with 3 coats of clear on top for that extra gloss. Spent 5 hours hand polishing them up, making sure its all swirl/scratch free. Hopefully I get the time to install it tomorrow, I'm dying to see if all the hard work has paid off or not

hahahaha this century....yeah right. Piano Black FTW, plan to do the same with my rocker box, Niapro plenum and interior as you have done. Red and silver against velocity FTL IMHO :stirthepot:

ok so once I pull ICC out stand it up right just like if it was still in my dash correct?? Can car be driven while ICC unit is out?????

I had no idea how many parts actually came off the ICC unit. Crazy. I cant decide if I should paint the actual air vent slider things or just the surrround.
