The biggest problem I had with adding ice into the system for the water/air intercooler was that I had to drain some coolant from the system reservior before you could add ice. Since you should be using some sort of anti-corrosion fluid (coolant) in the water/air system it became messy, annoying and can be expensive over time.

Also, is only possible to add ice if you include a decent sized reservior. I had a reservior a bit larger than a car battery (passenger side front) as you can see in the pic I posted. Even if you drained half the reservior, you couldnt get that much ice in there.

ic piping depends on how much power you want really...dont go to big or it will be less responsive but not to small and to restrictive, think 3inch is pretty standard for pretty good power on the road....dont they say that a decent intercooler and front facing plenum will give cooler intake temps then water-air(on the ARE site) I thnk water-air would be better for racing, but you think about how offen you are on boost on the street, you do a boost run then cruise so the cooler gets heat soaked then gets time to cool down. water-air just keeps it more constant good for the track. I wouldnt be tryin to complicate it to much, more crap to go wrong. just wack a front mount on it. either way you will still have to have some sorta heat exchanger at the front so if your worried about hitting a roo in the bush its gona get smashed anyways.....its not that big a deal driving with no boost if a cooler gets smashed, will still be able to do the speed limit...I have a big front mount and my car has toured most of outback qld, even up to the gulf, never put anything through it

Hey Quadz, sorry to drag up an old thread, have you had a go at this yet?

I am looking into doing a similar mod, but with a custom air box. I have been offered one of PWRs kits (5216 from memory, this says rated to 270 hp) for a relativily cheap price, but am not sure that it is up to the job.

Cheers

Definately not up to the job.

270hp is approximately 205kw - TTG are rated at 245kw

Factory intercooler are fine at 5psi but can't handle 12psi without overheating the air.

I think you would need two of these PWR coolers on a tune motor :innocent:

Yeah thought as much, it is actually the one 05_enforcer had, not sure if he was planing on using on his TTG, pre build plan or not, looks like front mount or another option. Liquid to air is allot more expensive than I thought, also I would imagine heavier, especially if you had a reservoir.
