Well after a long day at work I was on my way home driving like a grand mother when my diff let go. further inspection revealed a trail of destruction and diff oil all over the road plus a kinked axle. I'm just wondering what my options in regards to beefing up the factory diff center are? The main cause was due to the non existent front diff bushes which I have on order as fulcrum had a product recall on the original bushs. Any suggestions on a beefing up a f6 diff center?

Not good news mate. I think Matt (Typhoon Freak) is about to follow in your footsteps.

We're heading out to speak to Mal Wood within the week. Will let you know what he suggests.

Are there any pics of the carnage?

:spit:

Industry practice with diffs still use a small single roll pin (which I find an amazing retention method) to hold in place the main spider gear shaft, including ours. As these diffs are 2 pinion, there is only 1 shaft.

Sounds like the roll pin retaining the spider gear shaft has sheared allowing the main spider gear shaft to fall out and then all hell breaks loose inside (a loud bang and then some unusual grinding, followed by WTF was that?).

When I have had them fail on another car, the bang is un-unmissable.

Although the 2 actual spider gears are missing from the photo leaving the 2 side gears, you get the general idea:

Usually, there is some opening of the case hole where the spider gear shaft sits, and this then shears the roll pin when forwards and backwards torque is applied. The case hole enlargement is usually from driveline shocks rather than increased smooth power application. No diff bushes would do it.

I would put some sort of street soft locker in it that changes the axis of the retaining pin. A knowledgeable diff place should know....Diff Trans Spares etc.

The roll pin is definitely the first and easiest "point of failure" to be eliminated.

The ring and pinion being a decent size (8.6") means decent power capability, so if the guts can be upgraded, all should be good as Mennice has done.

Just wish Ford kept making a lighter part styled on a 9" centre...... :beerchug:
