Smoke them tyres Member 557 Member For: 17y 12d Gender: Male Location: Brisbane Posted 17/06/10 10:53 AM Share Posted 17/06/10 10:53 AM (edited) on an auto if you dont have a bov it will boost spike and detonate on gear changes.Boost control with throttle open is the job of the wastegate.Boost control with throttle closed is the job of the blow off valve. The boost spike in an auto occurs because the engine rpm drops on the change, but the turbo rpm does not drop as much and the wastegate is sluggish to restore the "balance".Turbo thrust bearings don't like compressor stalls. AFAIC, people can run without a blowoff valve, but do so at their own risk. Why ruin an expensive turbo when the valve is already fitted std? The loss is more than the gain. Hmmmm.....induce something to fail.....riiight.They are worth running on a well sorted setup as they will minimise turbo rpm loss between gear changes (and hence maximise boost response). Not all valves are noisy like the ricer pimp mobiles.... Rcolt Member 2 Member For: 14y 8m 11d Posted 17/06/10 12:50 PM Share Posted 17/06/10 12:50 PM BOV's come factory fitted for a reason IMO, and are traditionally associated with less lag between gear changes, but it is your car so do as you wish and see how it goes

I'm now BOVless too and like it.
