As stated above, it might be sweet without it for life or a the compressor blades might give up for some reason at any time because of the surge going through them. They might give up due to fatigue from having the multiple surges all the time or it might be a dud comp wheel that got contaminated and has always been weak.

Either way if you run without it you run the risk of busting the turbo, and possibly more lag at times.

Personally I will run a BOV as I have seen the effects on compressors in aircraft when their bleed valves fail.

Hi all, there appears to be some evidence that a BOV is benefical to turbo longevity.Blowoff valves are used to prevent compressor surge, a phenomenon that readily occurs when lifting off the throttle of an unvented, turbocharged engine. When the throttle plate on a turbocharged engine closes, the high pressure air in the intake system is trapped by the throttle and a pressure wave is forced back into the compressor. The compressor wheel slows rapidly and may even stall, and the driver will notice a fluttering air sound. The rapid slowing or stalling stresses the turbo and imparts severe turbo lag if the driver accelerates immediately after the surge event. Cheers.

Manuals are the worst. My old car used to lag badly when changing gears. Unless you tried the quickest change you could, like my sh1tty not quick change in the video (lol) otherwise it would take a second to spool up in the next gear which was ghey. Hence why I bought a ZF :surrenderwave:

car at tuner now and said its fine with no bov and he doesnt run bov's either. So keeping it with no bovs. Turbo is 20,000km so even if the roumers are true, its got plenty of life left before its 'high milage'

Its on the dyno now. Apparently has A3HD which is a PITA but that's chinese to me. Something AVO/headsex done. Somethgin inside the capa box? No idea ill do some googling after work.

Few vaccume lines etc all fixed and car all good for the tune for tomorrow. Hopefully I pick it up tomorro/fri with no bov and with good power levels. With plenty of 10sec BTRs lets see If I can add to the list when I go calder next meet.

NO BOV is my 2 cents from this tuner. So I agree.

A3HD is the latest calibration available for the 4 speed auto xr6t.. If the tuner doesn't like it, they can easily load another..

I suspect they dont like A3HD because of the increased torque reduction it has stock.. But if you know how to manipulate all that.. What difference does it make?!

My ex wife had a BOV. ME.

I do like flutter though.

*Beep*, make yourself know next time at Calder, although the next meet is a day meet on the Saturday 26th. Don't like day meetings. Can see my wrinkles.

on an auto if you dont have a bov it will boost spike and detonate on gear changes.

so it would be a good idea if you ran a bov until you can get it onto a dyno without the bov and have someone listen while the car is run through the gears.
