Mark Skaife Calls For Speed Limit To Be Lifted To 140Km/H

The thing on sunday tonight was pretty good, I made the mrs watch it. Most of the sh*t he had to say was pretty good. A couple of weeks of thoery and practicle driving lessons in handerling a car defensive driving and driving in excess off 160km.

The main thing I liked was the fact that germany spend tax money on giving new licensee's a grant for buying new safe cars. Our government spent our tax money on insulation that in which killed some people and burn down a f*ck load of houses. Germany's outlook on this issue it. Safer cars, safer roads, and better educated drivers will bring down deaths. *beep* on the road will be *beep* on the road regardless, they aim on trying to save people instead of spending billion on advertising to scare people.

Have always said - its not the speed, its the ability of firstly the driver and secondly the car!

Really quite simple...

I have never had a car accident when driving... at well... lets just say in a manner which would otherwise been of a offense in the eyes of an Aussie Police Officer... or as some may say... "smicky style".... however when playing the typical - mirror, speed check, road, speed check, road, speed check game - I honestly admit I have...

Silly things is they say - stay off the phone, don't listen to music to loud, watch your speed etc... ok, fine, but tell me why is it that when one is actually driving 'seriously' I bet we are all 'concentrating' t a far greater degree then when we are to busy checking the speedo ever 2 seconds....???

yer the prob is that there are too many crap drivers and the fact that they allow cars to go 100 kays an hour within a metre of another car doing 100 kays in the opposite direction wtf. that's asking for trouble. im all for this 140 kay an hour on our major free ways n highways or wotever though.

Usually make a point of NOT watching shows like that, or anything with Schnozza on it, but it was a refreshing change to see some real facts for a change.

Interestingly saw a news grab later on last night on channel 9 and it was along the lines of "ex-V8 supercar driver wants the speed limit raised to 140km/h" and that was it. So I can see how this is all going to pan-out, Skaiffe is some sort of hoon idle and should be sacked and locked-up. Fcken media

...made a bit of a flaw in his reporting though, claiming that blue BF XR that was wrapped around the tree was an old car and suggesting if it was a newer safer vehicle then it probably wouldn't have claimed four lives. Can't agree with that.

Yep the LA - Vegas run is great, as are alot of the Hyways in Cali... flow of traffic was usually 80mph and the cops didnt seem to concerned.

Its great that Mark has made these comments/ideas public, hopefully he may open some minds and prompt Gov to invest in some research.

It has nothing to do with common sense and little to do with any Govt concern about the road toll. Mark Scaife and all his merry men won't shut down the multi billion dollar photo tax corporation. Ian Johnson and Harold Scruby will be in shock and denial over what Skaife said.

Sounds like a good idea on separated highways, but also if they educate the drivers. I think to drive on the autobahn you have to ave another driving test to make sure you are capable, but others practices in places like Switzerland (I think) where you have to go into a slid and control it are also good education.
