Moisture has entered the damaged clear and allowed the alloy to oxidize and start to "push" the clear off. Best option is to have the clear coat removed and alloy re polished, the re-clear coated. I does look like worms but I think the moisture theory would be the likely cause a he lives in Darwin. You can take them to a reputable metal polisher then get them recoated. Sucks though hey!
