has anyone down a twin setup? I know you can get heaps of power from big single, but just to be different.....also what about compound turbos, bigy and a smally....I have seen a few setups around a supra in the states that claims has 20psi @ 2800rpm

just my random theoretical dreaming

cheers

Josh

Found this too on boost logic HERE

Good Question could a compound turbo be done on our beasts? What would be pros and cons if can be done?

I don't get it... Why would you go twins???

Maybe a little bit less lag but not worth it...

And that example you posted Daz... It looks like it's an NA engine... Was it built???

Why not try a crank driven supercharger with a massive turbo... That'll get the farking thing going!!!

I kind of agree that a normal twin setup is probably a waste of money. But a compound setup is very different to a parallel setup. It has the advantages of both a small and large turbo. IE, great spool and big power all the way to redline.

In a compound setup, the exhaust gases feed directly into the small turbo. The small turbo feeds into the large turbo. When the small turbo reaches a pre-set boost level, a wastegate diverts exhaust gases around the small turbo and into the large turbo. So it's like a single turbo that changes size automagically.

Biggest cons would be cost. Complicated piping, complicated setup and you'd need a little extra room. Some of those tractor pull guys use a compound setup running 4 turbos making 200+ psi.

Compounds I get... Parrallel I don't...

I am guessing the only benefit of parrallel is having two smaller turbos that spool quicker than 1 big one???

yeah only thing with the compound would be the heat generated....

I just thought maybe twins for something different, and some people reckon they spool up a bit faster and some reckon a single does....I was more thinking in the design sense that if you feed one turbo with 3 cyls the manifold would be easier to make and and the exhaust flow to the turbos might be a bit smoother so spools better, and it would be easier to make 3inch dump pipes instead of one huge one.

some tuff rb26s are singles and some are still twin, I think whateva floats ya boat

I can understand v motor its heaps easier to go twin cos dont have to have wrap around pipe.

im more interested in compound setup if you are going to go to the trouble of twins why not have a small and a big and have the best of both worlds boost down low and up high....

putting a big turbo on would be good but at what price, what sort of rpms do the biggys start to boost at?
