What To Spend My Suspension $$$ On

Hey guys,

I've just updated from a golf gti to a fg Mk11 turbo 6 as I need a bigger car to accommodate for the growing family and to tow my boat when the missus won't let me have the 4WD. After a weekend of driving it and comments from my father in law on how spongey the car feels I think I need to upgrade the suspension. Not really too interested in lowering it too much, if at all, but if I need to replace the springs for something with a higher spring rate then I guess I'll go down an inch as I'm really just after a firmer drive. Now, I know that for obvious reasons she won't handle like the gti but having something that handles a bit better than riding your boogie board in a bath tub would be good.

Any suggestions?

Keep the stock springs and change the shocks to bilsteins. When its time to change the diff bushes, do the control blade bushes as well.

This will give you what you are looking for

I have to say after putting Koni shocks in, they are well worth the money..

I was told by my local suspension shop the bilsteins are just harder for the road

As per the above, fit the Bilsteins and retain the rest of the suspension standard. Then fit high performance tyres all round otherwise you are wasting your time.

As for handling like a GTi... The truth is that they are different platforms, different weight distributions, RWD platform vs. FWD etc. They will feel different.

However, given really complex tight roads the XR6-T's can happily run away from Golf GTI, Audi S6 etc.

Not much difference on those - if your shocks are stuffed and the GT-P ones are brand new you will notice it but aside from that probably no point.

Would I be wasting my time by fitting GT-P shocks and springs on my XR6t?

Will it be a noticeable difference?

Just save your pennies for some Shockworks and be done with it.

I have read (most) pages and haven't really found what I am looking for.

Having a track/weekend car with coilovers and a stiff suspension setup that is horrible on the road but great on the track and a stock FGMK2 turbo, they are worlds apart and it makes the Falcon kinda sh*t to enjoy.

Are there any issues people have come across by just changing the springs on a standard car? Does it increase wear on standard shocks and bushes etc? I'm not after the same performance as the track car by any means but I really hate rolling through any sort of bend if I want to give it a squirt. Is a simple spring upgrade going to be good enough? Not looking to go low, not after a jolting ride as it's my daily and I do enjoy the cruising comfort, is there a happy cost effective medium without spending $1K+ on changing shocks and bushes etc?

with the complexity of those questions, I'd suggest you contact wholesale suspension (site advertiser) to have a discussion with them about your needs/budget/feel-requirements.
