I'm not sure if anyone has told you different but the stage 4's will work perfectly with VCT, we have done several cars with them with no issues, this may give you the best of both worlds.

Kyle just a quick question when using the stg 4 cams with the vct do u guys play with the cam timig settings through the vct or u dont touch it .I have heard the phasers dnt extend that far out hence the idea of the verniers among other things .I have played with cam timing with std cams and there is a good pik up in midrange and top figure. If so how much are the gains just seeing if its worthwhile putting on my streetcar

kyle did it pull peak power past 6000rpm and how was the bottom end I suppose it depends on the turbo used but a before and after comparison would be nice with the stage4s

Well Jamie is the resident tuner, so jamie if you read this let everyone know what we do with cam timing, I mainly instruct the 1's and 0's for af ratio, boost and timing on the big cars as I'm the one responsible for them, but he can tell you what we do with cam timing. I don't think you'll find a vast amount moving them around, bigger cams no matter which way you swing it are going to compromise bottom end, unless you only do a very mild upgrade.

As far as making power past 6000rpm, we haven't done anything with such a small exhaust wheel and housing as your darious, everything with cams has been GT42 style turbo kits. You have to keep in mind that its not just camshafts that limit peak power rpm potential, you have engine VE, turbine restriction, port velocity and a mutlitude of other factors to consider.

Kyle, this is what I was wondering. It would be great if Jamie could enlighten us as I think it will help quite a few people on our continuing journey to develop each of our examples of one of the best six cylinder engines in the world (IMHO).

I havent played with the verniers yet but the last windsor I built with an adjustable cam gear I built with a big cam just changed the power curve and where things start to happen there were no in crease in peak power .I know the std cams do ike timing in the m and the increases are beneficial

I have tried when I first put them in I had 2 deg advanced on the inlet and it lost bottom end then jim put it back on zero and picked up the bottom end and alot more light throttle response so we are going to try more retard on both and see what we get.this will be done early in the new year.

Firstly I must say the following is just comments on how I setup cam phasing.

This is aimed at the "DO IT YOURSELFER"not any any workshop or experienced engine builder/tuner.

Do not attempt any of this unless you an apt understanding of engines and tuning.

You can create problems and at worst destroy your engine.

When ever I use vernier cam gears in an engine I have built and tuned I do the following.

Making guesstimated settings to valve timing is taking the long way around.

Dial cams in at 0, do a base line tune and dyno run, check peak power and start fininsh of TORQUE curve.

I then degree the cams in to manufacturers specs and do another run.

Check the difference between the 2 runs.

If the dyno you are using allows it, do an overlay of both runs to make analysis easier.

I then start to play with the valve timing events in the quest for optimising torque etc.

Having true base line settings to work from,

EG: dialed in at 0 and then degreed at manufacturers spec

Gives you an accurate starting point.

If it all gets to messy and hard to go any further simply use the settings that yielded the best results 0 or manufacturers spec.

Remember no two engines are ever the same, what works on one maybe completely wrong for the other as far as OPTIMISING goes.

Dario, any progress on experimenting with the cam timing??

yes mate did plus 2 on inlet and zero exhaust lost bottom and top then went -2 on both and it held the top end for a bit longer past 6000 rpm but no extra power and it lost bottom end from the inlet cam being on -2 so I put it on 0 on the inlet and that was the best it could do

the next week I put the standard bf cams and vct gears back on and it went straight to 490 kw at the same boost heaps better bottom and peaked at 6000 rpm better mid as well stock bf cams worked the best with the turbo combo that im using those other cams in my opinion are crap they do nothing .
