Hi guys,

Excellent forum, I am about to buy a Fg xr6t or f6 ute, as ive got another dirt bike and need something to cart it around. Seeing im a turbo nut I couldnt have anything less lol. I currently have a evo 7 which is putting out a decent amount of power with a safe tune, and I dont really want to sell it, but I dont need 2 cars.

Will I be disappointed with the buy? im reading alot of topics about stuff breaking on the fords. im also in two minds about the f6 its 20 or so grand more but in the long run your only going to put bigger brakes and stuff on the xr6t, and its only going to sit around most of the time depreciating with my job. what do I need to look out for, if there are any problems from new? ill either buy new or close to new.

Would you really want to take a 50K F6 off road.

If I were you id go the xr6t and change the rotors and pads. Unless you are gonna do a heap of hard braking I wouldn't worry about doing massive changes to the brakes.

You wont be disappointed. Some get the odd teething problem and some don't.

My Xr6t Sedan has been pretty much faultless

Like any mass produced vehicle you're going to have issues, but that shouldn't be enough to deter you. They are awesome vehicles and the FG is a whole new level.

The only major issue that they were having with the utes is the tailshaft...not sure if that's been sorted yet or not?

Keep it stock it will run like a clock... Turn up the heat and it will have some issue..

Much like your self I own a dirt bike and the UTE comes in really handy. I just have a T not an F6, I had to tuned to around 320rwkw as a light tune when the car was around 2000kms old. it now has 13000 and I have not had one single little issue with it. The tune can be a bit rought at times but that is very easily fixed.

I would suggest getting the F6 if the cash isnt an issue but in saying that I went the T and I am extremely happy with it.

Anything after an Evo is going to be a disappointment.

I have an FG XR6 Turbo ute and its a love hate relationship. Its a Ford so it has atrocious build quality, handles like crap and goes like stink.

Don't expect to be able to drive it fast.

I'd suggest you sell your Evo and buy a new EVO 10 and buy a decent lockable trailer.

That's what I'll be doing when my lease is up.

Thanks for the replys, One question what happens with warrenty once you have it tuned and pushing out that power, is the warrenty then void?

Yea verve, I have driven the 10, the sst really takes the fun outta driving goes well but the styling still hasnt growen on me, Not as aggressive as they used to be. The 3 is my all time fav.

And another evo wont solve my problems, putting a towbar on a evo is a sin, and I dont believe you can as they havn't got a tow rating.

Id keep it but having two cars is pointless to me.

I understand. If you buy one spend a lot of time going over the whole car before you hand over your cash. From my experience look for the following:

1. Windscreen glass is clear and not cloudy

2. Paintwork has no runs

3. Panels align correctly

4. Radio Station search works on the radio

Buy the Premium Audio as the stock icc screen is rubbish.

Beware the Handbrake cables vibrate and make an awful noise when stationary in Drive.

If you have the Heavy Duty towbar installed make sure they use the genuine trailer plug harness and don't splice it in.

Expect problems with paint. I had my Bonnet repainted twice. It had some mysterious circles appear in it. Maybe aliens landed on it. My roof was also sanded down for paint runs.

Don't get your dealer to do the tint. Mine had to do the tint twice (under duress). It had defects in the film.

All of this took ages to get fixed through the dealer and took far too many visits for them to accept the fault and to fix. This is my major gripe. I still have outstanding issues.

Warranty is rubbish. I have a faulty ICC and the factory don't wish to replace it.

Beware servicing is overpriced at dealers, I use a mechanic who is a friend. I know what has been done to my car and don't get charged bullsh*t charges for rags and paper supplies etc.

Bargain hard, you should be able to get about an 8k discount. If not buy interstate.

Don't expect any decent after sales service.

I bought my car at John McGrath Ford in ACT and got a good discount.

Verve, every new car has defects (unless hand built) but you have somehow got them all. You shouldn't be taking your frustration out on new car buyers just because you got a lemon.

You have listed the faults you have come across as if they exist on majority of new cars. If that was the case you would see dealers full of unwanted cars.

These cars are a lot better than you give them credit for.

Just remember you didnt buy a rolls royce so dont expect the build quality to be the same.

You get what you pay for.

Hey Paulie2256, that wasn't my intention. Yeah I am frustrated that I was stupid enough to buy a Ford. I was warned not to; but didn't heed the advice. I am not a die hard Ford fan and made my assessment on the experiences that I have have endured. Don't get me wrong, I do like my ute and get a hoot from driving it every time, its just that Ford have spoilt my ownership experience in how they have dealt with me. I just wanted to share some of my experiences and advice with scarecrow so that when he purchases his new Ford he goes into it with his eyes wide open...

As for build quality I was comparing my Ford to the last 3 new Subaru's that I have owned since new. There is no comparison, the Subies at the same price point are far better built. Service from Subaru was also far superior than Ford, hands down. I have friends that currently own Fords and have had similar quality issues.

Its a dam shame we don't have Lemon laws in Australia.
