The Sumitomo HTR ZIII in 275/30/R19 is what was on there till now and I found their grip to be pretty average, I was really hoping the softer compound Advans were grippier.

By going off, you mean they turned hard and become fairly crap traction wise?

I barely put km's on the car so they should last a while I hope

yeah, I have Sumitomo HTR ZIII in what I thought where 275/35/20's.... a week or so ago I thought something didnt look quite right.... after looking at both rear wheels I noticed one was 35 profile (driver side) and one was 30 profile???? I was like "what the...?", ive had the car for about 5k kms and was thinking what a great way to :censored: the diff..... so that's y ive bought new 1's

they look pretty good.

I got an email response from tirerack,

"Yes we ship to Australia shipping for 2 tires will be in the area of $200. If you are interested I would need the exact shipping and billing addresses and phone numbers."

Looks like I'll be buying them from that site, about $780 from the US for two tyres, versus $1300 best price here in Perth!

yokohama AVS ES100

I bought the Yokohama AVS ES100 for my VT Late model camira V8 several years ago, and they were absolute crap. Worst tyre I've ever owned and pure sh!te in the wet. Can't believe they still make them. On the other I currently have Advan Sport V103, and they have been very good, with excellent grip in the wet. Also they have progressive slip when they let go. They are quite soft but I've gotten 30K from rears and fronts look like they'll do another 5-10K.

I think I'll go Eagle F1 though when I replace them.

Finally fitted my Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 tyres, took them for a test drive and holy sh*t they are extremely grippy! The closest thing to driving on slicks that I've had so far.

Word of caution though, I got the same size as my previous Sumitomo tyres (275/30/R19) however the Yokohama's are a good cm or more wider than the Sumitomos!

I've had to cut my gaurds a fair bit to make them fit, but I've done it properly and sealed the edges and painted it all so its all good. I didn't want to roll them in case of paint chipping..etc.

So, after 1 day of owning the AD08's I can't fault them and they grip amazingly well in the dry. I'll let u know how wet weather performance is when it rains.

yeah, I had the same issue with sumos, they tapered in (275's on 10") and thought I should go 295's... lucky I didnt when I bought the Yohohamas cos now they are square on the rim.

Well despite my Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics not being made in Germany but made in China, they performed really well on the VIC Alpine cruise, held well on the road on tight twisties and not much squealing as I turned into corners. Also, I have not spun these tyres - hard to do as they are still so grippy. So big :thumbsup: from me still :beerchug:

Well, got my Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics (Made in China ones not the Made in Germany ones) back in Oct 2010 last year. Done 12,000km in just on 8 months - including the Snowy Cruise and the VIC Alpine cruise - and still happy with them from the point of view of grip. Rears 2 tyres are quite worn down though now - I reckon I have about 1mm or so left above the tyre wear mark which is not so good from the point of view of wear. My fronts still have something like 5mm or so above the tyre wear mark. Buggered if I know why :dontknow: Oh, hold on - yes I do :roflmbo:

So, I shall be looking around to replace the rears again soon. My honest opinion? Yes, I would replace them again with Goodyear F1 Assymetrics when times comes to change them - I reckon I have another 3-4 months or so out of them - which makes it about a year per pair of rears. The performance out of them is enough to make me shell out the coin for them even though they don't last that long. This time I may order them from Tire Rack though and make sure I get the ones made in Germany :thumbsup:

Do you think there would be any interest in doing a group buy to minimise the shipping costs over to here? Not sure if there is any advantage in doing that though - so will investigate further. I'd be after 235/45/R17s though I.e. standard Dunlop OEM replacements.

Well, just read the latest Wheels June (I think) mag and it has a tyre test. Top 3 tyres were:

1. Michelin Pilot Sport 3 ($249 ea for 235/45R17 at Jax I noticed not $440 ea for R18 as noted in Wheels )

2. Continental Sport Contact 2

3. Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39

Seems that the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 scored well in most categories whereas the Continetals and the Kumho's each performed well in different catergories but were not as consistently (as in placed in the top 4 in each category) as the Michelins. Looks like these may be my replacents when the rear Dunlop Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics need changing :dontknow:
