yer I understand that and even on the castrol website they dont have an oil listed but you ring ford and all they tell you is that the oil should be good for the life of the box... then I come on here and read this thread and have a guy that's rebuild a fair few of these and taught guys hows to rebuild them and says how he has had issue with the gen ford oil and only success with transmax.... +the gen oil isnt cheap... I dont mind paying for something but its gotta be worth it right?

as mentioned, others have used it with no problems, at work we actually are a castrol distributor so I put it to my rep re the transmax, he went away and checked with their technical people, and the verdict is they do not recommend it.

well as far as I know ford dont make there own oil it will be produced by someone else and repackaged so what are the specs on the zf box oil anyone? surely someone makes an alternative that will keep warrenty for those who want too... personally if the guys that build these trans over here are putting transmaxz in them and think its great and have no issues then that's a pretty big thumbs up if you dont care about your warrenty... as I deal with castrol a fair bit at work I might ring and ask the question if they do make an oil that will suit and ask why they say transmax oil doesnt meet specs

I have asked the questions, they don't make an oil for the zf and can not recommend the transmax Z, I'm sure they are playing it safe, if they recommended it and their was a trans failure and the oil was blamed, owners would be looking for compensation

There is a link somewhere to the zf site, our box is the 6hp26 I think. The site will show which oils they recommend.

Penrite will recommend their SIN ATF

Penrite will no longer recommend their DX6 ATF (nor will I)

Castrol transmax Z works well for me and most peolpe I know who don't use factory oil.
