Blown Head Gasket In Ba Xr6T, Looking For Advice.

Its not uncommon for the headgaskets to leak externally on the exhaust side,as I have done mine and quite a few others. It is very uncommon for them to leak internally though. Get the headgasket tested either with a TK tester or fill the cylinders with air and see if the header tank overflows. If its been leaking internally for a while I would do the complete engine, just for the sake of its done 130,000km and if your going to keep the car for a while might aswell do it properly and do it once. $1000-$1200 headjob or a 5k full new FG bottomend with a reco head and new gaskets, seals and oil pump gears. Do the turbo line filter at the same time, whichever way you go bout it.

Agree. Put in a proper engine and GET IT TUNED. Capa generics have been known to cause all sorts of problems.

I've got C&V generic tunes, and while they are considered to be MUUUUCH safer, I am still nervous about them.

But now is your chance to build your car up properly, cut your losses and grab that long FG motor, and go get it tuned. Is yours a manual?

Well me and a mate decided we'd have a go at getting the head off today. First concern was during the removal of the cross over pipes, there was a large amount of oil scumming around in them (looks more like baby poo).

The throttle body was caked in gluggy dirty oil. And all the way back to the airbox. The oil is everwhere. Looks like we gotta remove the intercooler and piping to get it all clean.

We still havent got the head off yet, we basically just gotta get the head bolts out, and timing cover off.

At this stage im guessing its the head gasket, but im suprised to see the oil in the air inlet like it is. Could it be that the oil and water is pressurising in the motor, and causing it to come out the breather and into the air inlet?
