Hi

I recently blew the head gasket and maybe the turbo on my XR6T (the turbo is a little noisy now). The BA has over 130,000 on it, which I bought second hand.

Im looking for advice as to which way to get it fixed. eg new short block, just repair the gasket kit etc.

The car has a 4in dump and full exhaust. And a generic 10psi tune from capa.

If the head is still good I have a mate who can get it machined cheap.

Being a BA, I figure the bottom end probably isnt the best. Should I get a new short block.

I have seen on here people have been getting short blocks from ford for as low as $2400. The best price I can get is $2930. My local dealer wanted $4300 :S. Then there is the atomic block id love, but cant really afford.

I have a mate of a mate, who will swap the blocks over, for my old block and $500 cash his way if I go this path.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.

Quite easy job and not a lot of cost to do the head gasket. Much cheaper than a short block. Just make sure you change the head bolts and machine the head.

The coolant disappeared bloody quick, and the oil in the motor is dirty brown milk. And I now communicate via smoke signals from the exhaust.

When I got the 4in dump pipe, I was worried about overboosting. But capa told me the generic tune from them would stop over boosting.

Is there a chance rather then a blown head gasket it could be a turbo problem ? The oil and water mixing in the turbo ?

it is possible but highly un likly to be turbo.

But it is unusal for head gasket to go aswell.

But than again generic tune with 4 inch dump may have caused it.

where do you live.

Orange nsw. The car did over heat, but I figured it was due to the coolant loss because it blew the head gasket. But I found a coolant leak near the heater hose. So I figure the small leak caused it to cook enough to blow the gasket.
