Hey Guys I have an ex Federal Police 2003 BA xr6 turbo Stock. It has been pretty good so far but now it has about 185,000 km.

Over the last few weeks I have realised than when I rev it out ( beyond 3000 rpm ) it refuses to boost and the engine sounds like a "farting machine gun" ( almost similar to what happens when tractions control is going off - even though its not on )

I noticed this a few weeks ago - and only happened once in a blue moon but now it is happening more and more often.

Any idea what it could be? possible my turbo on it way out? or just something loose / loosing boost pressure somewhere?

Also it has been making a blowoff valvue noise for a while ( last 9 months or so ) even though I didn't fit it with any after marker BOV ( guys at ford say it was over boosting )

Looks like time for a good service, change all the basics such as spark plugs, fuel & air filters, clean out the boost solenoid, clean the turbo feed oil line/change filter.

Torque up all exhaust manifold bolts/studs, all the turbo bolts/studs. Tighten all hose clamps on the intercooler system & intake.

With all the basic service things done, if theres still issues you/workshop can start looking at bigger areas such as coils, turbo ect.

But allways smart to sort all the basics out first, especially at these high kays.

Thanx guy - yeah just had a $500- ford server about 6 weeks ago or so ( roughly when I started noticing the problem ) - so either they didn't do it property or something worse is happening. - I've rebooked it for Friday fingers crossed

Try your fuel pump.

Mine was doing the same. It would get to 3000 rpm and shudder. After changing my plugs and fuel filter I started to think about coils. After I took it to Blacktrack (Justin) he told me my fuel pump wasn't giving enough pressure. It was fine for normal driving, but it struggled under high boost.

Now it doesn't miss a beat.

My money is on coils.. mine was doing exactly the same thing I got coils at $120 Eac in NZ though so it will no doubt be cheaper for you
