Hopefully someone might be able to help me because ELN Ford at Tuggerah can't, but happy to charge me to tell me that!

Been having issues with the XR6 BFII N/A not wanting to start.

It will start probably 6 out of 10 times ok.

But, the other 4 times I need to give it a few spurts of the throttle so it doesn't die.

Sometimes even that doesnt help. After I turn the key it tries to start, then nothing. If I keep the key turned it will try to fire again prob 2 secs after it fails and chokes into action. It mostly gets going on the second attempt but it has taken 3 goes before.

Like I said, ELN Ford at Tuggerah "couldn't fault at time of testing". The service I just had performed by them hasn't helped either as it failed to start first attempt the next morning after picking it up.

According to the tax invoice they also charged me for new wiper blades and soap for the washer fluid, but there's no soap in the washer fluid and the wiper blades still scrape across the wind shield! They also charged me for oil, beginning to wonder if they even changed that!

Is anyone able to diagnose this problem? Or know what parts might be playing up?

Cheers

I know this is a bit of a slow reply...

But yeah I have the exact same problem with mine. Auto elec couldnt find a fault, Ford couldnt find a fault... Auto elec suggested it could possibly be this thing that sorta determines how much fuel it puts in. Said that or fuel pump, but I dont think its the fuel pump because its faultless anywhere else... I find that the better the fuel I put in, the less it will happen, maybe 30-50% of the time with 91, 20% of the time with 95, and about 10% of the time with 98 stuff...

Pos dumb suggestion but what about plugs n coil packs? Smaller spark from these being stuffed will struggle to burn the lower octane? :icon_ford:

you may find the fuel pump is leaking back not holding pressure and this causes it to not start.

It will loose pressure every time it stops but if it sits for some time the fuel in the injector rail evaporates so makes the motor hard to start.

Haven't checked this for awhile, but just had a service from Klosters in Newcastle. I told them about the problem and they said the throttle body probably needs cleaning. They did it for $159 and I haven't had a problem starting since! The car also feels alot smoother under acceleration. The exact description of what they did was:

"Carried out induction and combustion system service cleaning air intake system, inlet valves, EGR valve and combustion chamber from excessive carbon deposits..."
