Hi Guys,

Every now and then when I sink the boot into my FG XR6T, it axle tramps. I hate it. The axle tramp problem has become more pronounced as the tyres reach the end of their life.

I am thinking of fitting stiffer rear springs up the back end. I need some advice. Are stiffer springs likely to reduce or eliminate axle tramp? If not, what's the best fix?

I guess more grippy tyres would help but I want a fix that reduces the problem with worn tyres.

I read that firmer shocks help. I thought the factory shocks were pretty good. Maybe not?

Also, has anybody fitted a slightly stiffer rear sway bar to help turn-in? Results?

Pah,

Pat might be the best to answer this question and provide a solution but in my experience with changing to Tein's my car has considerably reduced axle tramp. I've also fitted top end tyres which has reduced it again but it's not gone all together. The only time I get tramp now is if I jump on it real hard in 1st gear trying to introduce wheel spin. If I launch the car properly holding off in 1st and then full throttle second I don't get tramp, just wheel spin.

Try replacing the hopeless blade link rubber voided bushes with poly ones.

You will see that the std bushes don't have a hope in hell of preventing tramp when you see the bushes out of the car....

If someone has a photo of them, it is pretty obvious.

I have a 2012 axle tramping XR 6 turbo since new, Ford aren't interested in fixing it, they are dogs, no wounder they are going broke in Australia. Anyway I have just been told that the bushes on the rear trailing arms are the cause. Does anyone know anymore about this theory.

More then likely the tramp isn't the suspension rather the diff Bush's allowing the diff to move and create bounce. There is a brilliant write up around here where this was explained.
