The New South Wales RTA has confirmed that its fixed digital speed camera on the Kingsway at Miranda incorrectly photographed motorists passing through a school zone outside of the zone's speed-limited hours.

"Last week the RTA detected a timing error at the school zone speed camera, affecting speeding offences from May 23 to June 11 inclusive," the RTA said on Friday.

"The timer on the school zone speed camera was out of sync due to a software error, which meant some motorists were being incorrectly detected for speeding."

With some 380 penalty notices issued, the total fine amount is understood to be worth about $49,000.

The RTA has confirmed that the fine amounts will be returned to the affected motorists, with the relevant demerit points wiped from their licences.

Victorian police 25 times more likely to escape a fine when they are caught speeding than members of the public, with new figures showing they are cautioned instead.

That's a huge surprise.

So how does Joe Bloggs apply to get his infringement turned in to an official warning?

So if you had a clean record for 2 years and you traveled no more than 10 k over, you can write a letter to have your ticket looked at. But personally I really doubt of any good outcomes, but on the other hand you will never know until you will try it.

And those numbers only show the ones with oficial warnings. Can only imagine how big the number would be if all the ones with "unoficial warnings" and the ones that never got pulled over were known.

You would be seriously peaved if you were a wally and got done though. Wouldn't you? There has to be some perks to the job that nobody else wants. Not trying to butt suck but I couldn't do it.

It just amazes me they prey on their own really.

I guess it comes back to having to have a very righteous attitude to be one in the first place.
