HI guys,

I'm from Victoria and I drive a lot around Melbourne.

During my every day run I probably pass around 100 cameras (some of them I pass few times a day, that's where the numbers are from). Every couple of days I also notice a new camera being built on yet another intersection.

Have they gone completely f*cking mad?

Of course some of you may say that they save lives. The number of crashes I see has not dramatically changed, and if it did, it would be thanks to ABS, Stability controls and all other safety gadgets.

Feels like our citizens are taken for an unfair and expensive ride.

Is there anything we can do to stop this Traffic Camera madness???

Who is behind it? Our Government, Police, VicRoads or all of them together???

If they save lives fair enough, and it is appropriate that the public servants involved receive the credit.

If however the data shows no difference, or worse, then all the responsible people should loose their jobs and the companies involved in peddling this nonsense technology should be sued for damages to the pubic.

As any even semi sensible analysis of the road toll would focus on the number of cars on the road, and, more specifically on the number of interactions between cars as the population is inexorably driven up and into higher densities by the corrupt developer-financier cartel we call the state government.

Regards,

aa

Governments of either persuasion quickly become addicted to the revenue they generate, further milking the cash cow that they take motorists for. The true value has and will always remain debateable, but the money they generate speaks much louder.

It would be the Gov and Vic roads and its purely for revenue but they'll tell you other wise.

The vast majority that get pinned are Mr and Mrs GOOD citizen.

I'm hoping to find the way to stop this madness.

It's revolting to see what's going on.

Can we gather our signatures and write a petition letter to the Government or is it just a waste of time?

Dealing with the problem of road safety is multi-faceted and is really hard. Setting up lots of cameras is relatively easy and also easy to sell to Mr & Mrs Public, simply blind them with enough misleading information, excluding the data that doesnt support your case and you're home. People need to see past the media bullcrap and realise that we are being conned!

National Protest !!!! buttrock.gif

Stop driving and use public transport for a month.

Public transport would grind to a halt in a day and no one would get to work.

Millions of lost revenue in fuel tax for the gov

GDP drops by about 15%

Nil income from cameras or police.

Don't smoke or drink piss for that month.

Go get that free health or dental check you are all entitled to, well those earning under 50K.

How many of you guys have your kids on a 50/50 60/40 70/30 basis and once again earn under 50k that don't claim rent allowance.

The revenue earned by the Kodaks would seem pretty pitiful then.

There are many legal ways to stick it back to the gov. But it has to be done in numbers....big numbers.

And they know we are just too apathetic to do it.

A politician is a member of the community elected by his brethren and peers to speak for the majority. roflmbo.gif

What do cameras and condoms have in common ???? They both capture that special moment

Admirable sentiment, and yes, you're spot on.. most of us are simply too lazy to make the effort to bring about a change.. Elections loom, so ring your local member and ask them what they plan to do about the current situation.. especially call the potential future members, for you would imagine (or at least hope..) they are receptive to taking a more proactive and meaning position... but like we have already read, its up to each of us to try to make a difference... Otherwise, sit back, crack another tinnie and when you receive your next fine, bend over and lube up!

Run a national poll for every person with a driver's license and I bet more than 50% are against this speed camera madness. It's not even about public relations anymore, most drivers truly believe speed cams are full of sh*t, it's just blatant revenue grabbing along with residential building taxes.
