unfortunately for me mattyb it sounds a bit like that video in your thread, but its not as fast or loud. its just a bit wierd because it comes and goes when the car is cold, its really quiet when its warm.

im getting it towed to my tuner on tuesday morning and they'll have a look at it for me. if it is a rod I'll be having a chat to atomic. luckily it hasnt put a leg out of bed....yet.

I hope for my sake its something to do with the valve train but I was looking for an excuss for a built motor :greddy2:

I have to agree with the others.

First thing- check your oil (when cold). Make sure it is not below the low indicator.

It will probably be either a valve or rod. But either way if you hear loud ticking in these cars you know there isn't much time.

From experience sounds like a bent rod...even though the ticking doesnt sound too loud and quite harmless allot of times it hides something much more sinister...if it is a bent rod and you keep driving it hard you will literally knock a hole in side of the block...I have seen this happen on my brothers car...you will literally be picking up pieces of piston and block casting off the road...get a compression test done so you can at least eliminate or verify that possibility...hope you get it sorted it out...

Well the inevitable had to happen.

I have just gotten back from the tuners and the case is a bent number 2 rod. they did a compression test and while 5 cylinders where all reading about 200spi the 2nd was reading 136psi so without a doubt that's what the ticking is.

It has lasted 192XXXkm's and 20,000 of that where with a touch under 450rwhp so considering it has only let go now its had a good run. It couldnt have come at a worse time, as these situations do, but what can ya do.

I've had a chat with the fiance and considering we have a wedding comming up and alot of our finances will be going toward that we have both decided that the best option at this time would be to go with a FG F6 short motor.

The fact that the car is my daily means the less time it is off the road the better and because my current BA block doesnt have a new inspection hole in it I can go crazy with that further down the track.

Now the fun begins :turboboink:
