I've got a BF2T 1st registered 1/2006 , 75k on the clock and my sub has just karked it (vibrates/distorts at most volume levels-Panasonic Ford branded crap) Anyway bought a replacment at BDL Fyshwick Canberra (Focal 21v2)100% better no more popping at near full volume-can't understand why the factory version has failed!!!!!

At time of sizing for replacment sales guy reckoned that I was about the 4th Ford premium sound user who had been in the shop this month to replace the sub due to failure.

Is this a common fault in the BF series? Havent seen any indication in the forum about similar problem, perhaps this is only now beginning to come into play due to ageing of the vehicles. Why the hell can't Ford option a so called premium unit with premium parts. Would kill for a Macintosh system like in the Subaru's and would be prepared to pay for it also. Listen Ford Australia!

common thing. Ford replaced three of mine in my BA and I ended up replacing it with a JBL. Wasnt all that happy with the JBL though.

What are the specs and price of the one you purchased

Mike, firstly its built to a price. As an upgrade, but again a price point.

Would you pay an extra $15K+ for a 'REAL' McIntosh system as an upgrade?

Regarding the Subaru McIntosh system - its just a McIntosh 'branded' system.

It was designed by McIntosh, however during the time Clarion owned McIntosh, so the product in a sense is really just a over priced Clarion.

Panasonic as a general Car Audio brand isn't all that bad. The upgrade is better then a lot of other upgrades from factory cars. The Amp while being a Sanyo is a Jap sourced and built unit - which was very suprising...

All in all if you want something serious, go aftermarket.

The Subaru system isn't much chop either. Had a Liby GT before the RSpec. Had to upgrade the front 6's" after about 6 months. 3 Headunits, and apparently there 'was' a back log on the HU replacements.

Replacement parts are 'refurbs' out of Clarion's repair center in Australia also, and nothing is replaced new.

Sub was sh*t, while the HU looked good, and there was a resonable sound the the components as the system was designed well, problem is....all the gear is built to a price point. Paper coned drivers, tweeters with caps on the terminals to act as xovers - blah blah blah...

Anyways... next topic for me..

No sub will last on the parcel shelf anyway. The sun kills them all. Mine is still stock and sounds fine, although it pops at higher volumes as I would expect it would... one day I'll upgrade... If you want your new one to sound even better, dynamat the rear parcel shelf. Makes a huge difference to the stock sub, will help your new one alot too.

You know, people see that premo sound includes a sub, and immediately associate it with big bass thumping systems and expect the same just because "its a sub"... Its a little 8" driver that's meant to compliment the stock speakers with a touch more low end. Its not designed to produce big bass, and I reckon it does fine for whats its for.
