Cheers for replys so far. Im in sydney and I will be patient , cant drive a turbo till october anyway so I will save and get a BF xr6t. It was either a turbo or a vy ss , I love the interior of the SS and the dash I think its better then the XR but for raw power off the line and low down grunt the xr6t is better you guys reckon?

Cheers Nathen. How many km's has your car had now? The ba's are real cheap now , about 10 of them on carsales for 12-15k.

Nathen since you own one and have experiance with them would you recomend to get the ba mk1 xr6t with lowish km's (lower then 100 or not much higher) and just spend the rest on mods? Or buy the bf??

Also is there any different exterior stuff with the ba and bf eg headlights or whatever??

Thanks mate

If you can afford a bit extra and you want an auto I would go a post 06/06 BF as they also have the Phoon bottom end (IIRC) as well as the ZF gear box.

Alternatively a BA with a beefed up auto, tranny cooler with some power mods would also be a great car.

At the end of the day if you want a BF and mod it you will need to sit down with the calculator and do the maths

with your budget in mind and make a call on which way to go

Quick question in relation to mods - So if I buy a stock ba xr6t and want to put a boost stage controller on , I buy the kit from somewhere I think they around $600 or so? then take to to a tuning place , they do it and dyno it so it is all set would the ba gear box handle it? also would I need to open up the zorst and extractors for full potential? Just want to know if you can do a minor thing like that or if you have to do the rest so its stable.

Cheers

Hey bud... You can just buy a flash box, regap your spark plugs and get a custom tune.. That will see power go from 200rwkw to 230-40rwkw...

If you want more, you need bigger injectors... Then you will see 260rwkw...

You will then be limited by your valve springs in a BA 1 or 2... Do this and you catalytic converter, and you will see up to 280-90...

Next is the intercooler setup and wastgate mod... If you get a better cooler setup and port the wastegate and change the actuator to maintain higher boost, you should see 330ish... BUT then your auto will die in a BA 1 or 2 (BF will handle it...)

Much more power than this and you will need to build the bottom end in a BA 1 or 2 and a BF 1...

Obviously I think you need to go a BA on your budget, otherwise you will be waiting a long time for mods...

Cheers,

Worm

Cheers alot fellas for the replys I really appreciate it , huge xrt6 fan but dont know much about them. I will end up getting the BF series 1 and leave it stock until I can mod it. At the moment the bf's are about 3-4k extra and as they say....you get what you pay for. I prefer the SS interior and SS dash , but the turbo can be modified for cheap and I want that power off the line , 5.7ltrs tend to build up speed and by the time it starts getting good your 40k's over the speed limit and in my case in someones front yard.

How do the stock turbos go , would it beat a stock ss?

cheers

Rear tail lights are different in the BF's, much sexier im my opinon. Dont even bother with a BA unless your ultimate goal is to spend 20K + in mods.

BA's are limited to around 300kw as a rule of thumb, the higher you go the higher the risk.

BF's will go up to around 400kw before forged gear is needed, rule of thumb.

Unless you plan on doing a full engine and trans rebuild in the end, go for a BF. It will see higher rwkws for less money right up to the 400kws. Any more than that and your into to serious sector and like it said, then it was probably better to start with a BA because you will replace all the weak link regardless off series so it doesnt nesserily matter.

In short,

Want a quick cheep car that is less likely to break up to about 400kws? BF

Want to build a monster 400+kws? BA, less start up cost.
