Thanks to Jizza for the kick in the ass to replace the factory speakers. Now I got a couple of questions - with premium sound it has tweeters in the A pillar. should I replace the front with splits and if so should I remove the pillar tweeters or just leave them there and put the split tweeters else where?

The factory tweeters appear to run separate to the front speakers??

I think it look neater if you could put the new tweeters in the a-pillar. Not sure how much room is behind it though.

Check out the following post, plenty of info on the tweeters including pictures and replacement information:

Tweets will likely run of the same line as the mid and there should be a cross over somewhere to split the signal but it may be easier to just swap them out, however you will of course need to ensure you get the wiring to them from the cross overs in your new splits........

I did do a search prior and read that post. However everything talks of replacing them. As you can see in the picture there is some sort of ?filter? on the tweeter itself - so I'm guessing it runs independent...

I was considering flush mounting the tweeter beside the speaker on the door panel, that way I don't have to pull apart the dash and run wires from the door to the dash?? Some stuff I've read on audio forums recommends mounting tweeters level with the mids (is this the speaker?) and not on A pillar, does this sound right?

Man, put them in the a pillar where the factory ones were. just unplug the original ones and tuck the wires away. there is heaps of room in there.

If you put the crossovers inside the cabin then you still only have to run a new wire thru the door for the woofer if you dont want to use the factory wires for the woofer. keeps the crossovers dry too

what about tweeter placement is the A pillar best? it seems the most common, however I kept reading stuff about keeping it in-line with the mid? Again I'm just guessing the mid is the speaker...

Also have now pulled out the front speakers and the factory tweeters still run. Cranked the music up as loud as the new rears could handle an the tweeters still sounded fine.

ok so I lined up the replacement tweeters vs the factory in the existing wiring an the new ones shat on the old, so I ripped out the old and mounted new in their place.

I have spent today putting in the splits an sound deadening the doors - and I can't really hear much difference :3gears:

Mb quart

Front - FSS216 6 INCH SPLITS

Rear - NAN116 6 INCH 2 WAY SPEAKERS

an good ol bunnings flashtac.

In phase?

The fronts are well sealed. They are in the plastic factory mounts, I think I may need to deaden them as well??

The rears aren't well sealed an the doors still need to be deadened. What do you recommend for sealing a gap between speaker and moount? In the front the gap was only small so I used some silicon. In the rears the gap is much bigger. Should I also seal unused screw holes in the speaker?

I have noticed I now need to turn it up much louder to get the same volume. used to be loud on 20 now is loud on 28, maybe the factory amp is at limit?
