Went to Wakefield Park today in the FG XR6T.

I am running RDA Slotted discs with Ferodo DS Performance pads.

They worked well today except for our last lap of the day the brakes started shuddering.

I've let them cool down but they're still shudderring on mid to high brake pedal pressure.

Does this sound like a warped disc ?

If so are they a throw away or can they be skimmed ?

(If they are to be thrown I've still got the standard fronts to bung on until I can get myself another set.)

You can skim them, but the shudder will return after the next hard braking manoeuvre you perform.

If they aren't that old, take it up with RDA, or shoot HIRO a PM for a decent set of DBA rotors.

Cheers,

Ben

I've heard of the RDA warping and the DBA warping...but interestingly someone said the DBA were fine unless the Bendix ceramic tech (GCT) pads are used. Those are known to some to warp any slotted rotor.

I wonder how often pads and discs are mismatched and that causes problems?

Having said that my stock rotors warped just because they couldn't take the heat, haha.

I've had discs warp before. I just gave them another heat cycle (read pizzling), and they came "straight" again.

Suprised me the first time......but that is what they did.

The real fix for disc warping is to put some floating discs on it.

The hub is much stronger than the disc. The only way the non floating hot discs can expand is to do it laterally (warp), hence the pulsing brake pedal. When the discs are allowed to float, they can expand vertically as they want to do. Less heat to the bearing also.

The fix in it's current state would be to improve the cooling to the disc so it does not get to a temperature where it wants to warp. Best spot for some ducting is on the inside of the disc right where the disc exits the caliper, as this is where the temperature difference between the disc and air is at it's greatest.

I have got DBA 4000 series slotted with Bendix Ultimates at the moment and mine still shudder...and apparantly they are rated at 650 dedegrees celcius...to be honest I have just accepted that they are going to have to shudder...though im not sure if its because of the disc warping or the transfer layer of brake material not being applied evenly hence causing uneven wear...I have cleaned wheel hubs before installing the rotor and have followed the bedding in procedure but still slowly and gradually the shudder comes back...has anyone that has had this problem actually permanently fixed it???...If so let us know how you did it...

I think the DBA's just flex the solidly mounted disc bell rather than truly float??????

Race brakes might be a good place to start.....http://www.racebrakessydney.com.au/
